I agree with everyone. The show was fantastic. I was already a fan of all 3 musicians, but I had no idea it would be THAT good. It completely went above and beyond my expectations musically. I could tell by the looks on the faces of almost everyone there that I wasn’t the only one feeling like that as well.
The comments already made re: Freedom are so true. It really worked well. What else is new? was really stretched out and by god, the jam in the middle was craziness. J’s solos were incredible throughout the entire night and the chemistry between him and Dave was a real treat to watch. Not to mention, I have no idea how Kyle kept up but he did exceptionally well. That was one damn fine band if I ever saw one. By the time they hit the Sludgefeast at the end, my jaw was hanging on the ground.
You west coast folks are truly lucky to get the rest of these dates. I feel so fortunate to have caught this one. I saw The Fog tour with Mike Watt in 2000 at the Double Door, which was my first time actually getting to see J live, and that show blew me away. This one took the cake and tops off my list of some of my favorite shows ever. (Even though the solo show in January at the Caledonia was not too shabby either.)
And 2 days later, there is still a buzz in my ears…

May 1, 2004 at 5:49 pm #101443I tried to quote Jayne and did something really wrong anyway
Jayne said:"I have no idea how Kyle kept up but he did exceptionally well."
and I just wanted to say Has anyone seen Kyle? He was dropping buckets of sweat all over his drums! After the show Dave asked us if we would like to go back and met J, We did but there was no sign of Kyle. We had a few fans over to spend the night and we were up talking about the show. We were all talking about Kyle keeping up, he did it but the joke was he might be laying on the ground behind that black curtain at the 40 Watt. As one fan said in a Southern way, "J worked that boy like a mule"
