In the continuing saga of "the album";what do you think is the ideal length for an album?in the cd age, time has been added from the standard 45 minutes in the past,do you think albums now are too long and 45 minutes is the ideal length?

I think 45 min is the ideal length,70 min albums I find too long.

The ideal length for an album is exactly 48:11. Because Where You Been is the perfect album. Simple as that.

I think the shorter albums, around 30 minutes, always seem to be better, because they’re less likely to have "filler" tracks.

Thirty minutes is to short, specially If you know the prices we pay in Holland for a cd!!
Nearby fifty minutes is the ideal length according to Hansione, but I don’t walk a way for a seventy minute one (without fillers)

Personally I think that it all depends on the artist. A Guided by Voices CD is rarely 40 minutes, but long enough. If you are going for someone who makes 7 minute songs, you need a longer disk. Quality is best. As long as you project the message you are sending, the disk is OK by me…

It DEFINITELY depends on the artist. If you have a punk album, where all the songs are 2 minutes long, you need a longer album to be fulfilled! If you have an album of big, sprawling jazz tunes, sometimes less is more. If you have a concept album by someone like Marilyn Manson or the Who, where the record is divided into sections, well, it’s gonna take as long as it’s gonna take.

i agree as well that it depends on the band. but with that said, i agree with hansione that the ideal length is about 50 minutes. maybe between 50 and 60.

i feel ripped off when albums are only 30 minutes, even 40 im feeling kind of cheated. (the first moby grape album, for some reason, costs 18 or 19 bucks, and its only 30 minutes. doesnt even have any bonus tracks. im just not going to pay that much for an album that short) i have no problem listening to really long albums as long as all the songs are good. the field mice comp. that is out there is two discs at 80 minutes each, and ive listened to those all the way through more times than i can count.
