It`s problably been done before;but what are your all time fav albums? My top 5 are:
Dinosaur jr-Bug
Husker Du-New Day Rising
My Bloody Valentine-Loveless
Buffalo Tom-Let me come over
Drop Nineteens-Deleware(your problably never heard of them;they were this Boston band from the early 90`s who did 2 albums;1 in 1992
1 in 1993 for caroline records and then split up.Deleware is the first album;one of the early indie rock albums I bought so it has sentimental value to me)
no.6 on up is hard for me to decide;so many albums I like!another time I`ll mention others if I can decide on 6-10,11-15,etc.

no particular order:

j. mascis & the fog – more light
smashing pumpkins – adore
NIN – pretty hate machine
radiohead – the bends
weezer – the blue album

subject to change

Hey salamiguy,

Difficult to actually narrow things down like that, will have to make an exception…before everything else…all Dino/J/Fog releases. Just wanted to be clear

Other than that…

1. Damned Damned Damned & Machine Gun Etiquette by the Damned…amazing sounds

2. Funhouse…The Stooges…The Boxed set from Rhino is so cool, over 20 versions of Loose and Down on The Street. One version of Down On The Street has keyboards…very odd but cool.

3. Darklands…Jesus and Mary Chain…miss these guys in a huge way.

4. I’m Stranded…The Saints… One of the most underrated Oz punk bands in the history of the world… not a doubt about that one. Demolition Girl, Stranded, Erotic Neurotic, Story of Love…will convert all that hear it to the Saints

5.Husker Du…Candy Apple Grey, can play this one repeatedly for hours on end…perfect pop.
Grant’s voice kills me every time

Like everyone here these may change but generally the above are top of the list more than not.

On the look out for some new ones though…new Iggy, Hydromatics, Bob Mould and New Christs…should be cool

Allison

ps Just remembered Sub Pop is releasing something July 17th…The Essential Radio Birdman, 22 outstanding songs!!! 1st US domestic release, hope the sound is cleaned up but WOW this will be added to the list. Another Oz band…still pissed Deniz Tek beat Asheton out on 194bar.com/guitar god poll thou

Good choices Another Girl/Planet;The Saints-Don`t have any of their stuff but I heard The Muffs cover `do the robot` from their Hamburger compilation.Stooges-"raw power" is my fav;I don`t know where it will end up on the list."candy apple grey"-My 3rd fav husker record(zen arcade is 2nd)`hardly getting over it` kills me everytime.`no promise have I made`-kind of a Meatloaf balllad but Grant is cooler than Meatloaf.Never checked out The Damned;got to one of these days.Jesus and Mary Chain-They were a big influence on My Bloody Valentine;don`t have any of their stuff;
The Pixies cover of `head on` is cool.Anyone who duets with Hope Sandoval is cool with me(mazzy star might pop up on my list later)
I have my no.6-10 ready;this like my first 5 is in the punk/indie/alt genre;I will do separate lists for classic rock, jazz, and blues at a later time.I did`nt repeat the same artist twice;I picked my most fav album by a certain artist so Dino/J and Husker multiple albums wont take up so much of the list.I could easily put all of Dino/J albums in the top ten!Anyway here`s 6-10:
Uncle Tupelo-Anodyne
Eric`s Trip-Love Tara
Red Red Meat-Jimmy Wine Majestic
Pavement-Slanted and Enchanted
Spinanes-Manos

Nirvana – in Utero
Husker Du – New DAy Rising
Guided by Voices – Alien Lanes
Manic Street Preachers – Holy Bible
Pixies – Doolittle

Trouble is this list would chnge week to week depending on what I’m listening to.. reckon the above lot would always be in top ten however. All have stood tesat of time and are still regularly played.

Could easily extend list to top 20,30-50 etc

Agree with John my list changes incredibly fast, but here is a final addition…the number six’s waiting in the wings

everything by…The Flaming LipsGrantHartBobMouldSwervedriverUrgeOverkillLemonheadsCureNewYorkDollsHeartbreakers/ThundersRamones DeadBoysModestMouse…oh oh I better take a breath..run on words what can you do

Allison

ps If anyone has the mp3 of The Hellacopters doing Stab Your Back by the Damned….HELP ME. I think it was only released on vinyl…purple too cool!!!

One of the great underrated albums of all time. Kudos to you for remembering it; I smacked myself when I saw I had left it off my list.

Yeah,Beefheart`s trout mask is cool.I bought it last christmas,I was listening to it back in january when I had a real bad flu bug, like the kind of flu that sucks your energy and have crazyness running through your head;Trout mask is not the kind of record to listen to when your in this shape! It`s so wierd! My fav track is `orange claw hammer`,`china pig`is pure John Lee Hooker(R.I.P.) influence.I like that part at the end of `hair pie` when Zappa or Beefheart are talking to the couple that just moved in."what do you think","sounds good!"
Eggwater should get cool points for mentioning
Ornette Coleman"shape of jazz to come","free jazz" is my fav, that will be on my fav jazz albums list.
Spaceboy-cool points for you for mentioning the 2nd Palace record; It`s usually refered to as "days in the wake" but it`s not written on the album at all! That will be on my list soon.

1 urusei yatsura – slain by
2 faith no more – angel dust

Think I could be doing top tens all week if I let myself. Have so far avoided mentioning any J or Dino albums, or any band/ artist twice.

Let me do that and the list would go on and on and and on….
