Wow ! One of those "best-ever-show"-shows I’ve been to ! Very scary venue with excellent sound (on the outside of town, by the river). Took us ages to get to the venue since Antwerp roadsigns tend to leed you in all kinds of directions and there’s LOADS of roadconstruction work going on so we got redirected all the time and always ended up in the wrong place for 1&1/2 hours… :-[ we had to skip dinner and where kinda bummed out about that. Support bands where mediocre (Hicky Underworld where ok, pretty tight – the Drones I didn’t like at all, very "cliche" rock attitude with some freakout guitar work). Dinosaur went on at about 11:10 PM and played one of the heaviest, noisiest sets I’ve ever seen them play. No, no new songs, of course ;) but some real cool free-form feedback stuff between songs and a couple of spontaneous jams. Lou was more talkative than at the previous night’s show (Utrecht) and asked the light-mixer to turn off the spotlight over the drums to not burn Murph’s bald head :D "This is a song off of our first album" (Lou) and then they played "Leper" ! They did a short guitar-solo-only jam on the chord progression of "Severed Lips" for about a minute and went straight into "Lose" after that. Lou’s amp broke during the guitar-solo of "Sludgefeast" forcing him to stop playing w/J & Murph carrying on, still sounding like a full band. All in all they played for nearly 90 minutes. Words can’t describe what we saw & heard last night, overall the playing was looser and more aggressive than I’ve seen them before on these reunion shows. They seem to really take their time between songs as Murph and Lou always walk around the stage to either drink (Murph) or make some free-form noise (Lou). Coolest band on the planet.

      Setlist (with correct running order):

      Gargoyle
      In A Jar
      The Wagon
      Bulbs Of Passion
      The Lung
      Little Fury Things
      The Leper
      No Bones
      Forget The Swan>
      >Severed Lips (guitarsolo-only jam)>
      >Lose
      Raisans>
      >2 mins of feedback drone-noise>
      >Sludgefeast

      – encore:

Sleepy Silver Door (short 20 sec. Jam of a Dead Meadow tune)
Just Like Heaven (w/Lou screaming a long "Yoooouuu" through all of the first chorus ;D)
      Freak Scene
      Mountain Man

This was day 2 of us following the band around – off to Bremen tonight ! :)

Been there too, and, WOW!?’twas IMPRESSIVE!!! (If you get the set list correct, I’d appreciate that very much, since I didn’t take any notes, and I like to have my set lists…)

I can confirm almost ev’rything written above… I’m glad I made it there, which was harder than expected… Had to drive about some 3 hours to get to Antwerp, and then it took me about another hour driving around inside town to find a way to the parking garage of my hotel since it is in the midst of a huge reconstruction area in front of the Antwerp Central Station… I found the time for a little snack though before I decided to leave the car in the parking garage of the hotel and take a taxi to the venue?which turned out to be a big mistake! The taxi driver was completely nuts, maybe his wife had just left him or whatever… He caused a smaller car crash and then was having a longer argument with the woman driver of the other car… Eventually he got back into the taxi and drove on, ranting about how miserable all women are… He didn’t know the venue, he didn’t even know the street, and so we drove up and down the road for some time before he finally found the place… Arriving there just in time I was a little surprised that there was only a handful of people waiting… From the outside the venue looked scary indeed, and for a while I doubted that anybody would ever open any door…

Well, we got in there with almost an hour delay, and I must say from the inside I found the hall surprisingly "cool" and no longer scary at all… By and by also the crowd came in; obviously most of them knew there was no use in being early…
Had some beers while waiting, and the opening acts didn’t do much for me, but as soon as the DINOSAUR was on stage ever’ything was alright… They literally blew us away with one of the loudest shows ever, and they performed perfectly…
(I cannot confirm that the venue has an excellent sound though… I found the acoustics in the Ancienne Belgique in Brussels where I saw ’em last year much better…)

Anyways, I enjoyed the show, and my ears kept ringing while I had to wait for a taxi to pick me up and bring me back to my hotel once again for more than an hour…

So, DINOSAUR rocks! (But Antwerp sucks…) ;)
