Hello all,
I was wondering if anyone happened to record the show at the Caledonia Lounge. Just my luck. I just moved to Taiwan from South Carolina on the 15th. Days after arriving, I read the thread on the show in Athens!!! Oh well, hopefully my sadness can be redeemed somewhat if someone recorded the show and was kind enough to post it on freesofree.net.
Hey, maybe J will do an international tour and swing through! I’ll promote the hell out of the show! It’s only like a 24 hour trip!January 28, 2004 at 8:49 am #98605good question. I’ll raise you a pretty please on the recording!
January 28, 2004 at 1:27 pm #98606Dim409, show was recorded. I have heard it will be available on "Sharing the Groove.org" however I can never figure out how to get music from this site and must always turn to my husband for help. That can take a long time sometimes. You are in luck, he called me from work this morning and said he ran into a friend who has a copy of the 01/26/04 show from Caledonia. It will take a few days to get to sharing the groove.org. If you have trouble with that site like I do, just send a mail. Stefka
January 28, 2004 at 1:35 pm #98607Ditto to Jeremiah, if you have trouble just e-mail and I will try to find a way to help out. By the way grabbed a few posters of the walls around town. What can I say we are sort of fan or you know something like that.
January 28, 2004 at 1:37 pm #98608great news annastefka! Can’t wait until that one pops up at the groove, thanks a ton for the info!
January 28, 2004 at 2:41 pm #98609excellent.
http://www.freesofree.net is open for business and looking for new J shows. (as always).
January 29, 2004 at 3:45 am #98610That makes me ecstatic!!!
While I wait for the show to be posted, anyone have a setlist of what he played? Mainly, I’d like to know if he played any new material. Ahhh, I love the internet! To be around the world and still be able to get a J Mascis show! Can’t wait to hear it!January 29, 2004 at 9:44 am #98611what did the posters look like ??
January 29, 2004 at 10:15 am #98612Rambleon, you can see a bit of one poster hanging to the right of our web cam at http://www.villaveces.us . I am having fun with this poster. I just took all of my older children to see "School of Rock" at the dollar theater for the second time, and this poster is hanging inside our kichen next to the fridge. Now, I tell EVERYONE, when you get a drink in the kitchen you must raise your goblet of rock and toast the God of guitar!!! My children think this is so much fun and kind of silly! My friends are sure I have lost my mind. This happens everytime J. comes to town it takes a few weeks and then life settles down to normal again. So come on over via the web cam and raise your goblet of rock!
January 29, 2004 at 12:44 pm #98613cool !!!
… + further to that, "cheers !!"

January 31, 2004 at 11:09 am #98614thanks a lot for the info, Annastefka, that’s a very good reason to introduce oneself to http://www.sharingthegroove.org
February 4, 2004 at 1:29 pm #98615Hey y’all,
My friend did indeed record the Athens show. Another friend of ours is going to be putting it up on SharingTheGroove.org in a few days (today is Wednesday). I saw that some here don’t know how to use it; it’s pretty easy if you have a burner so read up! Hopefully once one person here does download it, then can get it to others on the message board that are looking. We didn’t have a good grasp of song names though so hopefully you guys can help with that once it goes up.
Thanks!
JayneFebruary 4, 2004 at 1:32 pm #98616Oh yeah, btw, the show was GREAT. Very packed. I felt like I was in 11th grade again listening to J (had only seen him play with the Fog and Mike Watt a few years back). So glad we made the drive from ATL on the cold rainy night it was. Opener, The Tom Collins, was great as well. http://www.thetomcollins.com
Look for the show soon,
JayneFebruary 4, 2004 at 2:18 pm #98617thanks for the update Jayne!
February 4, 2004 at 3:41 pm #98618Regarding bit torrent, as Jayne said, it’s pretty easy. Here’s what you need, and a couple of pointers for those who might not be familiar with this program.
1. You need, as the name suggest, a bit torrent client. There are several available, but I would recommend these:(as they have some tweaking options)
TheSHAD0W’s EXPERIMENTAL BITTORRENT CLIENT http://bt.degreez.net/”>http://bt.degreez.net/
ABC http://pingpong-abc.sourceforge.net/download.html”>http://pingpong-abc.sourceforge.net/download.html
Azureus http://azureus.sourceforge.net/”>http://azureus.sourceforge.net/2. Once you have installed this program you need a torrent. In this case the torrent will be posted on http://www.sharingthegroove.org, which is a bbs very simular to freakscene.
3. You’ve located the torrent at sharingthegroove. Now you press the torrent link and when prompted you decide a place to save the link on your hd.
4. Once the link has been downloaded you press launch(at least that’s what mozilla says, ie might say something different.) You are now prompted to designate a place to save the show. Once you’ve done this, the bit torrent client will check that you have enough space on your hd to save the show.
5. The show is downloading. If you go to the folder that you decided to save the files to, it will appear as if they allready are downloaded. This is not so. Do not try to run, convert or move the files before the download is completed. That could, if you’re real lucky, fuck things up for you.
6. The show is downloaded. Depending on your connection you may or may not have uploaded the same amount of data as you’ve downloaded. This will be visible on the bit torrent client. It is proper etiquette to upload as much as you’ve downloaded. In other words, you might have downloaded the entire show (let’s say it’s 700 mb,) but only uploaded 500. If this is the case you should leave your bit torrent client open until you’ve uploaded the remaining 200 mb.
7. BUT, that’s not to say that you’ll have to sit there biting your nails waiting for those slow bastards to get the show from you, without the possibility of listening to J! Most shows are shared either as flac or shn. This means that you can convert these files to wavs, and listen to them, as long as you don’t delete the shn’s or flac files after you’ve converted them.
converting flac: http://mikewren.com/flac/”>http://mikewren.com/flac/
converting shn: http://home.att.net/~mkw/mkwact.html”>http://home.att.net/~mkw/mkwact.html
There’s also possible to install a shn plugin and listen to them in winamp, the plugin can be found here: http://etree.org/shnamp.html”>http://etree.org/shnamp.htmlAs for tweaking, if you use any of the bit torrent clients I’ve mentioned you’ll be able to(among other things,) cap your upload speed, just remember that the download speed is to some degree decided by your upload speed. So if you decide to be a bastard and cap your upload speed at 4kbps you won’t be getting a high download speed either.
I’m not sure I’ve explained this in a good way, so if there’s anything, shout.
