White dies Sunday morning
Former NFL star Reggie White has died after suffering a massive heart attack Sunday morning at his home near Huntersville, N.C., ESPN’s Chris Mortensen has learned.
The former Green Bay Packers and Philadelphia Eagles star turned 43 on Dec. 19.
"Today our beloved husband, father and friend passed away," White’s wife, Sara, said through a family pastor. "His family appreciates your thoughts and prayers as we mourn the loss of Reggie White. We want to thank you in advance for honoring our privacy."

Defensive lineman Reggie White, who terrorized quarterbacks for the Green Bay Packers and Philadelphia Eagles, has died of a massive heart attack at age 43, according to ESPN.
Reporter Andrea Kremer said that since leaving he game, he had suffered through his wife’s diagnosis with multiple sclerosis, and had been studying Hebrew in a search to better clarify his religious beliefs.
He left his wife, a son and a daughter. The family issued a statement thanking fans and reporters for their thoughts and asking that their privacy be respected.
White was nicknamed the "Minister of Defense" for his football prowess and his Evangelical Christian ordination.
A prolific sacker, he set records at the University of Tennessee that still stand. After school, he signed on with the Memphis Showboats of the USFL for two seasons, then joined the Eagles when the USFL folded. In 1993, after eight seasons in Philadelphia, he went to Green Bay for six seasons and helping them to two Super Bowls, including a victory in Super Bowl XXXI.
After retiring in 1998, he had a change of heart and signed with the Carolina Panthers for the 2000 season, but retired again after a lackluster performance that year.
In 1996, the Inner City Church in Knoxville, Tenn., where White was an associate minister, was burned to the ground in 1996. An outpouring of financial support, in part because of White’s celebrity, helped to rebuild the church.
December 29, 2004 at 2:00 am #104382…Stillers got it all, at least all you can get in the regular season. I swear i’ve been in a drunken coma this past week. Not even the stillers caused it, it’s the darn holidaze. Too much fun seeking people that drag you out since they haven’t scene you in ages, didn’t even get to watch the game sunday, i was trapped in a town not cool enough to see the stillers in color, some got out, others chose to stay, reasons are aimless, Myron Cope is famous and hearing him do the game on the radio was fun for a week. Big Ben got banged up a bit, saw the hit, bad but not neccasrryiarly evil for lack of a more misspelled modifier. All’s well that ends well, which is this regular season next week in Buffalo. Most likely lots of starters will be rested. Fine by me, i’m looking forward to seeing Ike Taylor and Ricardo Cochglee get big time at corner and Chad Scott might be back, good chance to see if he, rather those three can do it being that the Bills recievers are fierce.
Didn’t see the replay misfortune in the Bears game. Did read about it in a few papers and no one seems to believe the refs got it right. Something isn’t right when things end up like that.
January 2, 2005 at 12:05 pm #104383The holidays make me all dizzy, too much of this & that…

Looking forward to The Steelers game today, big Ben’s taken over the lead in jersey sales, beating Urlacher

Go Steelers Go

BEARS play the mini packers today in Chicago, pack are resting most of their starters…worried we’d kick their ass & damage their play off hopes
Yeah right
Anyways, beating the mini packers is just fine with me, hope we can do it!
Kick off…
Go BEARS Go

ps damn its aikman, collinsworth & the baseball geek calling the game
January 2, 2005 at 3:17 pm #104384We couldn’t even beat the mini packers, finish the season 5-11

Expect a lot of changes on the team next year, offensive line is horrible, nine sacks today, over 60 thru the year. Most of the time there were more opposing team players in our backfield than BEARS…YIKES

Rumor out there we’re looking to add a vet qb to compete with Rex, Kelly Holcomb sounds interesting, I for one am NOT interested in Kurt Warner, I’d rather hang on to Jeff George!
A Train will be lost to free agency, expect David Terrell to either restructure his contract or just flat out be released. RW wants to restructure his contract to remain a BEAR, he hasn’t done well as fs, great on punt returns, hope they can make it work.
Looking forward to getting healthy thru the offseason, can’t wait to see Mike Brown & Brian Urlacher back on the field.
Minnesota may be out of the playoffs if the Rams hold the lead…

Looks like The Steelers will go into the playoffs strong & hopefully healthy…

oh yeah, we set a team record for penalties this year
January 5, 2005 at 1:01 am #104385…15-1. Crqazy year, i was hoping for 10-6 at the beginning of the year and then Tommy Madox gets hurt and Big Ben steps up big time. Sunday was a reminder of how bad Tommy could be then how good the offensive line has been as they marched down the field for the winning drive featuring back-ups and a guy playing quarterback that didn’t make the team in training camp. Brian St. Pierre was at the helm not even Tommy Maddox who had an ugly interception to put the game in doubt. It was all rookie Willie Parker but the other rookie Ben Rothlesburger is the guy that makes it go, along with the Bus and Plax Hines and the entire defense; hopefully all will be healthy in two weeks for the insainity that are the nfl play-offs.
The Bears have a high draft pick to look forward to…
I wouldn’t be excited about Kurt Warner, the Drew Brees sweepstakes will be nuts i bet; hopfully that Rex kid fixes up and plays like a first round pick.
on to the playoffs…
January 5, 2005 at 3:20 pm #104386We’re picking 4th in the draft, unless we trade down for more picks, we need them thats for sure

Happy day in BEARland yesterday, our OC got fired
Couple good coaches out there, Ron Turner led us to some of our best offesive seasons with ERic Kramer as qb, Minnesotas Linehan, Mike Martz from the rams if he gets fired after they lose in the playoffs…Shea’s final grade: F
By Mike Spellman Daily Herald Sports Writer
Posted Wednesday, January 05, 2005Somewhere John Shoop is probably smiling.
A year after being plucked from the Kansas City Chiefs coaching staff and hailed as a cure-all for what ailed the Bears under Shoop, offensive coordinator Terry Shea was shown the door following another in a long line of offensive seasons by the Bears offense.
The Bears finished the season at 5-11 thanks in large part to an offense that ranked at or near the bottom in almost every statistical category including yards per game, passing average, first downs and points. In 16 games they managed just 19 touchdowns.
Something had to give, and Tuesday at Halas Hall that something was Shea.
"It was a tough decision," Smith said with a slight quiver in his voice. "He’s a good man, a good coach, but I felt this was the direction we really had to go."
Smith said his decision to fire Shea was supported by Bears president Ted Phillips and general manager Jerry Angelo. It came just two days after the regular season ended with a thud in a 31-14 loss to the Green Bay Packers at Soldier Field.
"I think it’s in the best interest of everyone when you know that you need to do something to make that decision and move on," Smith said. "The bottom line is you have a gut feeling and you go with that decision – that’s what I’m doing."
Smith’s quick strike came just weeks after he backed his beleaguered coordinator by responding clearly with "What’s the highest grade you can give him?" when asked to grade Shea’s performance.
His response Tuesday to his sudden change of heart was quite a bit fuzzier.
"When you ask questions like that during the course of the season, we were a group together and you kind of go with everything then, and then after the season you really sit back and you evaluate everything that happened, and that’s what I did," Smith said. "Every coach had my full support as we were going through the season.
"But you look at things after the season and we were 5-11 and that wasn’t good enough."
It didn’t help Shea’s cause that he was dealing with less than a full deck on offense. Three games into the season starting quarterback Rex Grossman went down with a season-ending knee injury. None of his three replacements – including Shea’s hand-picked backup Jonathan Quinn – did much to write home about. Not helping the cause was a decimated offensive line and a less-than-stellar receiving corps.
"I know there were injuries involved and different things like that," Smith said, "but you have to make more progress than we made."
And they have to do it by running the ball more, according to Smith. The Bears ran more than 30 times just once in their final seven games, something Smith vowed to change.
"As far as the system, as I’ve said all along, I’d like to see us become a run-first team," Smith said. "I thought we got away from that."
As for Shea’s replacement, Smith said the field is wide open, and experience calling plays at the pro level isn’t an absolute necessity.
"I still don’t think it’s a must to have NFL play-calling experience," Smith said. "Every coordinator has his first job. I just think you get the best available and that’s what we’ll do this time.
"I didn’t get it right the first time. We’ll get it right this time."
January 16, 2005 at 11:01 am #104387Steelers made it thru yesterday, was a bit worried though, can’t believe the jets kicker missed two fg’s

Today I’d like to see the patriots go down, not sure it can happen though. It’s cold outside, Peyton Manning has lost a ton of games in Boston. Pat’s are hurting though, both corners out, just what Manning needs to decrease his int’s.
Go Indy Go
Wonder how Eagles fans will greet moss today
January 18, 2005 at 12:59 am #104388a win is a win is a win, especially in the playoffs. Scary as all get out. Almost as scary as those pats from new england. They have that peyton guy’s number and they did the stillers in in 2001-02. Jets touchdowns were tragic. Interception and punt return. That’s how we lose, defense is too good to lose games, it’s always something stupid. I hope Ben shakes off his big head rust and plays smart football. If Willie Williams keeps up his inspired play the defense should be fine. They usually spread us out and throw all over the place. They exposed our week secondary but early this year it didn’t work like years past so i’m expecting a heap of Corey Dillion but we handled him well when he was a Bengal so bring it mr. tom brady and hopefully Chris Hope and the rest of the secondary steps up. Hope missed a tackle last week which is rare but not exceptable in the playoffs. Too much craziness.
go Stillers go
January 18, 2005 at 4:05 pm #104389Yeah, I was scared for awhile as well, really pleased to see then pull it out in OT

You guys definitely have a tough game coming up, good luck & I can’t wait to see it. With two wicked defenses out there it should be outrageously pleasing to watch, all those wicked hits, great drives & such amazing coaching

I’m still disappointed in the Colts/Pats game, thought it would be the game of the week…NOT
Really believed it would be much closer, week 1 of this season Pats won 27-24, gotta give the Pats D credit though, most explosive scoring offense kept to a fg thru 4 quarters, yikes
Not a huge fan of the eagles, but they kicked the crap out of the vikes last week so…

Some pretty pleasing signs for Randy Moss in the stands @ Philly, as well as some wicked green afros for good measure. Minneapolis papers are starting to wonder if they need to trade Moss, maybe he needs a change of venue, don’t think he can gain back any respect from his team after walking off couple weeks ago, not to mention the interview where he pretty much disrespected the coach & all his team mates opinions. Apparently their gonna contact Dennis Green to see about a trade…
January 23, 2005 at 8:38 pm #104390I hate the Patriots

That int in the 4th should have been overturned, no way was that a catch

Damn
January 25, 2005 at 12:42 am #104391all’s well that ends…well that’s not right, freakin’ pats. I was wigging out in the second half. We had no sense of urgancy, should have been no-huddle the entire second half. The holding call on the third and 16 screen play ended it. Arron Smith played the best season of his life and he gets the worst call ever on him at the worst possible moment. Can’t complain about the year though. 15-1, 16-2 with the play-offs. Stillers were 6-10 last year so in the grand skeme of things it was a good year. Need to address the cornerbacks. Willie Williams is too old and Desha Townsand gets beat and is short. Chad Scott is washed up. Ike Taylor and Ricardo Cocoghlee are young and fast but they need to bring in some more guys or draft someone till they get a shut down take half the field away type corner. Haven’t had that since Rod Woodson was a kid. Ben should be fine, got a year under his belt now. Hope Plax comes back but he’s talking like he’s leaving. Bus will be back, i think; Super Bowl is in Detroit next year i believe and he would love to end it all in his back yard.
I hate both teams left standing. At least i can get wasted during the super bowl, probably at a party. If the stillers were in it i’d be locked in my cave like a normal game day hidden from distraction. I hate being social though.
the season is over
bring on the draft
February 6, 2005 at 4:43 pm #104392The Big game today, although when your team isn’t there it’s just not the same…but hey, next year…

Apparently this year they have cameras embedded in the turf, not sure what to expect from that

Couple ex BEARS on the Patriots so….Go Pat’s Go
February 6, 2005 at 9:22 pm #104393Patriots win, ex BEARS Rosie Colvin, Keith Traylor & possibly Jim Miller will get a ring…

They used a couple turf camera shots, they weren’t pretty…
