wow wow wow wow WOW ! this show was so devastatingly good that i’ve been in a great mood all week long !!!! there was so – much – good – stuff to look at … the guys did such a good job … suffice to say the show was just amazing ….
and … i finally got a chance to give my present to j … yeah ! … it was freeeezing in london that night and it was about -7 or 8 C w/the wind chill factor … i think that’s around 20 degrees F … we got there early, but since it was sunday and all the shops close around 6 we decided to wait in the queue (from about 6.30) … there were only about 5 people in front of us, so we were right next to the front door … the doors were supposed to open at 7 (according to the tix and the sign on the door), but they kept us waiting and waiting for what seemed like an eternity b/c it was so cold …
finally about 7.15 this guy walks up to the front of the queue w/ a guitar in a hard purple case … he bangs on the metal doors, a security guy opens up the door and he says in an irish accent that he’s kevin’s (shields’ ?) brother and he has j’s guitar ! … the guy says hang on a sec … and comes back w/some manager type lady … who lets him in … then about 5 or 10 mins later the door opens again and we all are thinking YEAH !! they’re finally going to let us in just as the frostbite is setting in … and out walks j and ron and some other people who i didn’t recognize … one of the guys at the v.front of the queue runs over to j and asks him to sign some stuff … so my husband says go, go, go !! (we were thinking of chucking his present at him just before he started playing or just after — not a good plan, but we weren’t sure what else we could do…) but luckily it didn’t come to that b/c he was standing about 20 yards away … so i scooted over there … nervous as anything … quaking in my boots and praying to god my voice wouldn’t fail me (b/c when i get v.nervous it has a way of slowly getting quieter and quieter until nothing… which is kind of what happened when he played at the metro club and i asked him to sign my cd and i was so nervous the words didn’t really come out in anything but a whisper and eventually he got the idea when i waved the pen and cd in his general direction, but he definitely must have thought i was a retard or something) … anyhow … the reason he stuck around so long is b/c the guy in front of me had a cd cover for every album j’s ever done and then some !! … i’m not sure if he was going to sell these on ebay or if he was j’s biggest fan … but he had a stack of these and j dutifully signed them all w/a squiggly â€

But when fortunately some other setlis already exist, I like to compare them with my my memory of the gig and tjat is a good way to go through the gig anew
"rambleon" wrote:(i forgot to mention the picks that were in there too — some w/bugs on them and others that looked like flying cloud’s spaceman head — oops) …great presents for J, btw!
fine, that he liked them
December 20, 2002 at 3:10 pm #84362thanks !
yeah … the t shirts are pretty cool … they’re white w/a logo that starts at the top w/2 A’s then an M and then a W
kind of like this :
A
M
Wbut all the letters are joined up at their points and in between the A’s and the M there’s a v.simple drawing of an eye w/a blue centre and v-shaped eveylashes and beneath all the letters it says ASHETON ASHETON MASCIS WATT
well worth 10 pounds ! but usually they sell t-shirts at the mean fiddler from the little hole in the wall near the coat room on the way out, so i don’t think most people knew they were actually being sold right next to the stage !
it was lucky that we hung around for a bit and as the crowd thinned we saw the t-shirt guy … i think he was j’s manager or something and he was super friendly and kind of funny … not at all bitter like a lot of t-shirt seller types are (some of them think they’re way cool b/c they’re w/the band – that type of mentality … ok my rant about that is over now
)and thanks for the hot tip on the album … it was flying cloud who 1st pointed it out a few weeks ago … and i was like, whoa ! where have i been ? i never knew it existed … well … it’s my last day of work for 6
days and who knows … maybe i’ll finally get to grips w/my scanner … maybe when the cabin-fever boredom of boxing day sets in ?
December 20, 2002 at 4:31 pm #84363cool t-shirts

thanks for the detailed description
December 20, 2002 at 6:20 pm #84364Those tshirts sounds great, ten pounds is definitely a good price for a collectors item
With you on the usual tshirt sellers ego thing, always get a good laugh out of the attitudes

December 21, 2002 at 10:31 am #84365Here are some pictures of the Mean Fiddler gig
This is what the maker has to say about them on the Mike Watt mailing list:
Quote:Sorry about the pop-ups that’ll appear when you visit it – it’s the
downside of Tripod. I’ve just realised I created my first website on
that space over 5 years ago!Anyway – 6 photos, which is all I took because I didn’t want to set
off too many distracting camera flashes. The 2 wierd ones of Watt
were using a long exposure and no flash; unintentional, but turned
out looking kind of cool. I wanted to get photos of the guy doing No
Fun and Lou doing I Wanna Be Your Dog, but by then I was being
crushed against the barrier a bit and couldn’t get my camera out my
pocket.Kenny
