Great show with a diverse setlist…I have not seen Little Fury Things the last 3 times I have seen them so it was nice to hear it at this show. Somebody post the setlist if you have it.
I cannot get the lyrics from the BBQ Pants song "I trusted you" out of my head. Anybody else dig this as much as I did?
December 4, 2007 at 1:44 pm #132660Yeah, I was digging it, I have never seen J smile and laugh like that while playing………that was a priceless!
A reunited Schools/Spence fog w/Sweeny………Dinosaur Jr. were really really good as well. I will write more about the show later this evening if I have time……….I’ve used up my five minutes right now, got to run out the door.I was sent this e-mail this morning………I was not familiar with that song but it is stuck in my head today.
I watched it just to learn the lyrics http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TSYV-nEE300 TSYV-nEE300If you watch the crowd in the above video…………the crowd in Athens was about 100 times more into it, hard to fathom
but believe it!!!!December 4, 2007 at 1:51 pm #132661Wow.
I did not know that was an Andy Kaufman song…the original and the cover last night were funny as hell.
December 4, 2007 at 11:40 pm #132662Well, I wanted to take a moment to write about the show. I didn’t want to be bothered with writing down a set list, you know what they played, more or less. This was the first time I have seen the reunited band. They are tight, real tight, and the songs from Beyond sounded great. The sound level was nice, not too loud, I stuffed ear-plugs in at the half way point and then started to feel like Ariel from the Little Mermaid, stuck on the bottom of the ocean thinking if I could just make it to the surface I can hear a real live rock band I hate that feeling so I pulled out the plugs after two songs.
It was a real treat to see J play with Dave and Kyle for a few songs, and nice to have sweeny with them. When the "I trusted You" song started, at the like 45 second mark, I was thinking WTF is this, then I watched as they magically turned it into some sort of swirling mantra that after a few minutes became almost hypnotic. Then it was fun. I think they took something borderline silly and pushed it over the edge into sublime, I know people are still talking about it today. The Fleetwood Mac song was pretty good also. Sloan recorded the whole thing so perhaps y’all will be able to hear it someday.
Oh, I was standing next to some guitaretards, my new word, I couldn’t have made their dialog any funnier than it was, the one guy started in with, "I hope when it’s time for me to go, I die from having J’s stack fall on me" his buddy was like "yeah, that would be the way to go", then the other, "once I had a dream, I was on the beach and J was there with his Marshalls and his twin (what ever, some sort of music gear,I don’t really know but not a sibling) then the other guy, yeah, I had a dream once just like that. on and on the guitaretards went, much like the "I Trusted You" song, I thought "these two must be joking" but on and on it went… with dialog, that just became more and more absurd. So I spent some time tuning into these two.
Dinosaur Jr were great, like brain surgeons who have done "hundreds of these" they rocked well, like a well oiled machine.
They are all very skilled musicians that’s easy to see and it’s still amazing to me that such a sound can come from a trio. Then as Dinosaur Jr were playing I found myself looking at each member and watching to see which chakra point on the body is carrying the load (I did a little workshop in that sort of think not too long ago) my dialog is now sounding as absurd as the guitaretards, I must continue and say, It was great to see Murph plays from the "heart", he really does. I saw J and Lou playing from the second and third chakra, which is a little more grounded than the heart chakra but a little less relaxed, anyway, then I was drawn to look at J’s pockets and I had never paid much attention before, but I started thinking to myself "What the hell is he carrying in there" I was cracking up with the friend that I came with, we were trying to guess "what’s in J’s pockets" my choices were "The Holy Bible" in one and one of those fold up, blow up camping style mattresses in the other. My other idea was perhaps it’s provisions, in case of an emergency, like what happened in New Orleans. You know he has like granola bars and bottled water in one and maybe a small first aid kit and a flashlight in the other. As stupid as all of this sounds, the brother looks to have about 6 pounds of stuff in his pockets.
I was home on the couch in front of a fire at 1:30 am a full two hours earlier than the last time I saw J with the Fog and Thank God for that because the sun came up at it’s usual time and the Dad in this house does not get up and get kids ready for school. I drifted off to sleep, on the couch, because almost all of the children were with their Daddy in a puppy dog pile in our bed. I remember one of the last thoughts I had before going under, was perhaps J has baby Rory asleep in his pockets, like a kangaroo. Soooo……….a good Freakscene contest for the future…………could be answering the question, other than a wallet and a few guitar picks, what could he possible be hauling around.
Oh, photographs here http://www.kodakgallery.com/ShareLandingReg.jsp?Uc=s77866b.6phauwxz&Uy=-ec2zoj&Upost_signin=Slideshow.jsp%3Fmode%3Dfromshare&Ux=0&UV=444325238740_638078706503″>http://www.kodakgallery.com/ShareLandin … 8078706503
that’s the back of me, in the third shot from the right, I’m the only one with long hair standing behind the guy in the black leather jacket……..just to give you an idea of where I was. Enjoy the photos, I hope the link works. Peace Y’all. S.December 5, 2007 at 5:59 am #132663Wow, quite a write up.
Speaking of Murph….I will say he is outstanding.
Thank God for the reunion.
He has mad skillz and needs to be drumming.
J and Lou could probably get by but it seems Murph needs this gig.I hope they continue to tour off and on for a long time…
Can you imagine in 20-30 years, knocking out Lose or Mountain Man.
I’ll go see em then.

December 6, 2007 at 9:24 pm #132673Alright….who is going to help me out here?
I drove in from Atlanta with a friend who has never been to see Dinosaur Jr before. I want to burn a CD of the songs from the show and want to be fairly accurate with the setlist. I was drinking a bit and cannot remember everything.
The highlight for me was hearing Little Fury Things because it was the first song I heard from the band back in 1987 in Athens. I am from NY and went to school at UGA. I remember sitting in my apartment as usual with friends on a Friday night watching a local cable music show that featured college music stuff. We’d be drinking before going out to the bars (my best work at the Odyssy – now the Nowhere Bar) and have this show on the tube in the background. Little Fury Things came on and I thought "what the $#@& is this! I have to find out about this band". Soon after Bug came out and I saw them at the Uptown Lounge. As I said in my first post, I have seen them a bunch of times but not heard Little Fury Things the last three so this brought back some good memories.
Here is what I remember from Monday night in very loose order….please correct me if I am wrong:
Bulbs
Almost Ready
Out There
Back to your Heart
Lung
Pick Me Up
Been There All the Time
Little Fury Things
Crumble
All I Came to Do
Feel The Pain
Repulsion
??
Mountain Man
?
Freakscene
