Well, sounds like someone was pretty pleased by the man last night :)
Hope the show tonight will live up to the expectations. Tomorrow is the norwegian independence day, so I’m getting ready to get completely pissed and spit nationalism in the eye. Should be a treat.

A brief lesson in norwegian history:

after the plague(svarte dauen) the swedes move right in and take control. swedes aren’t clever so some years later they support napoleon. bad move. as a result norway are presented to denmark as a gift to make things better after the war. it sucked being owned by the swedes. after a while people starts to realise that it sucks being owned by the danes as well. so they kick out the danes, and make up a constitution. this was signed on mai 17.

so tomorrow the king will tell us that norway is great, the primeminister will tell us that norway is great, we will tell ourselves that norway is great etc. since this has been going on for a few years alot of people think that norway is the worlds greatest country of all time, number one, smash hit and hoorah for us. this sickens me a bit -norway is a rock with 4.3 million people, surrounded by oil and fish -not too much to brag about.

but the worst thing are the nationalists that starts to talk about vikings and nazism and how we should get rid of all the immigrants and so on. for fuck sake, we were invaded and occupied by the nazis for 5 years. which, to say the least, wasn’t excactly a blast. and now they walk around talking about how nationalism really is about protecting the people and keeping it safe for the average joe. it worries me that some people actually manages to be so profoundly stupid and ignorant. I’d really like to perform genital surgery with a spoon and a blow torch on each and everyone of them.

hey bud. i guess we’re all in the same boat. the americans (generalisation) think they are the greatest nation on earth, the Brits hang onto an empire that doesn’t really mean anything (anyone ever wonder how such a small, insignificant island at one point controlled so much of the world. how the fuck is our queen the queen of Australia, Canada et al?). Commonwealth my arse.

We got our NF (national front) problems too – lots of them standing at local elections at the moment. they have fronted themselves with women, trying to get away from the Oswald Mosley Gable Street image of the 1930’s, but are still the same nationalist fucks as ever.

Worrying times. Thank God for Bush, Blair, Chirac and the other "world leaders". Ahem.

Thought I put my show review (Hamburg/Germany, May 19th) here to have kind of a collection of show reviews in this topic:

When I arrived, Chris Brockaw just started with his nice one man support set after he greeted the crowd in (very good) German :)

It took about an hour after Chris Brockaw finished, until Evan Dando entered the stage, singing some songs alone with his electric guitar (fighting with some buzz out of the monitors, but this was fixed during the first song). After that the band came on stage, and the guys really rocked :P
Many songs of his new disc, as well as a good load of Lemonheads classics.
The guys were really into it, having lots of fun on stage, although they had to fight with the equipment from time to time or needed more than one attempt to start with a song, but that didn’t really matter.

Evan talked quite a lot to the audience, and he made a nice joke out of reciting almost the full lyrics of I Wish I Was Him (a song of Ben Lee about Evan Dando ) playing his guitar "really fast", when the song said so :P …well, he left out the "he even knows the guys from Dinosaur Jr." part, although he could have pointed at George Berz… :D
It was great to see George rocking! I’d really like to see him over here with the Fog again … :|

There were not many encores, so the show was over after about less than 2 hours, but it was a fine gig anyway :)

Gotta admit, keen observation on someone´s part. Our first rehersal was soundcheck at our first show in Cork, Ireland. Seeing as Glasgow was only three shows later, there may have still been some rough edges. Actually, I was still relying on my notebook for some of the tunes, but the shadows were really bad, and I couldn´t see it very well. Oh well! As I´m writing this from Barcelona, I can assure you that the notebook was chucked prior to the two London shows. It all has come together rather nicely. Bergara, in the Basque region of Spain, was great yesterday. It was about 98F outside, and abunch of us climned this lovely green hill to get to the abandoned castle up at the top. We were able to get inside and sample some of the local jazz tobacco there. Now I know why Hendrix wrote Spanish Castle Magic!!! As great as it´s been on this side of the pond, I can´t wait to get back to good ol´NYC for a couple of days, prior to heading out on as US tour. Take care yawl!

                    From Pitchfork

Evan Dando Tours Behind Solo Record
Attendance of Boston-area Handsome Ex-Cracksmokers’ Anonymous meetings temporarily halved

                    Steve Haag reports:

Bucking the recent trend of truth-in-advertising album titles (to wit: Godsmack’s Faceless; Staind’s 14 Shades of Grey; Good Charlotte’s The Young and The Hopeless), ex-Lemonhead Evan Dando’s solo album, Baby I’m Bored, has been garnering better reviews (save the one it got from us) than its apathetic title might suggest.

Of course, it’s been seven years since his last album proper, The Lemonheads’ swan song Car Button Cloth, so he’s had plenty of time to stop smoking crack and turn in an album numerous outlets have hailed as his best work since It’s a Shame About Ray. Cough.

That’s fantastic, but how does it all sound live? There’s only one way to find out; Dando just finished up the European leg of his tour in Belgium last week and has returned stateside to promote Baby I’m Bored. Accompanying Dando will be guitarist Chris Brokaw (Come, Codeine), bassist-cum-fellow Blake Babies conspirator Juliana Hatfield, and drummer George Berz, who recently pulled a tour of duty hitting the skins for J Mascis & The Fog.

How will Dando respond returning a society where Kelly Clarkson is no longer the reigning American Idol? This question will likely remain unanswered by the tour’s end, but here are the dates anyway:

06-10 Providence, RI – Met Café
06-11 Cambridge, MA – Middle East Restaurant & Nightclub
06-12 New York, NY – Bowery Ballroom
06-13 Washington, DC – Black Cat
                    06-14 Philadelphia, PA – Trocadero
06-16 Cleveland, OH – Grog Shop
                    06-17 Toronto, ON – Lee’s Palace
06-19 Detroit, MI – Magic Stick
06-20 Chicago, IL – WXRT Taste of Randolph Street Festival
                    06-21 Minneapolis, MN – 7th Street Entry
06-24 Seattle, WA – Chop Suey
                    06-25 Portland, OR – Lola’s Room @ Crystal Ballroom
06-27 San Francisco, CA – Bottom of the Hill
06-28 Los Angeles, CA – El Rey Theater
06-29 Solano Beach, CA – Belly Up Tavern

It’s true, by the way, that Dando recruited his good buddy Liv Tyler to sing backing vocals on "Shots iI Fired"– the b-side to Baby I’m Bored’s first single, "Stop My Head"– but there’s no truth to the rumor that she’ll be touring with the band and giving free lessons in how to speak Elvish after each night’s show.
