I was thinking about all the bands J has toured with and played gigs with, see if you can think of any more than what I come up with:
Sonic Youth
Gumball
Bettie Serveert
Nirvana(I think)
Kyuss
My Bloody Valentine
Jesus And Mary Chain
Pixies(I think)
Firehose

Love As Laughter

When did Kyuss play with them? I like the remnants of them that made up QOTSA.

ELJ, I saw the show in 95 at Coca Cola Roxy theater in Atlanta GA. Everbeen there? I tell you that place was jam packed. And LOUD! I would easily say 400-500 fans. I don’t know why Kyuss, but sure glad they were there. I believe that’s when I picked up a new band, sound that I liked in music. The tour was the Without A Sound Tour. And the first time other than Lolapolluza (ms) I really saw J up close and personal. I remember bringing my girlfriend, she wasn’t in to the bands, she just knew I was burning down before and after. I don’t know, maybe she did love me… to much info. Any way, j starts off with feel the pain. And the band start off, but not in time. They stop, and J is barely laughing. He says "Alright." Then the rest of the show was a power house. I’m lucky to have that show on cassette tape but have erased over the intro of feel the pain and about 10 minutes of the start of the show. Sorry to ramble, that show started all the hoopla for me. Any way, I don’t know why Kyuss.

"hey, look over your shoulder."
"hey, it’s me getting older."

What a memory!

Peace.

Nice story! Thanks for sharing. I wasn’t asking why they chose Kyuss, I was just wondering when that happened. I’d still like to see Kyuss regroup and play a show. That’d be so cool.

I heard an interview with Scarce,a Rhode Island band who most people never heard of,
this was in 94 I think and they were suppossed
to tour with J,but J changed his mind and chose Kyuss. They were not angry with J,I guess they did`nt mind, but lead singer Chick
Graning said he thought J looked like the Mona Lisa in magazine photos,a strange comparison.
Bassist Joyce Raskin said"No,the moaning Lisa!"

Ooohh…good query.
I have seen a lot of good bands and a lot of crap opening for J and/or Dinosaur.
The best was undoubtedly in 1991 when J appeared at the Hollywood Palladium in support of Green Mind. The opening bands were Hole and Nirvana. Obviously, way before either band became huge…I always kind of wondered if that was the show where Kurt and Courtney first met…probably not.
Other good bands include Come, Love as Laughter…
Lot of crap though…Rocket from the Crypt and a couple other bands whose names I would just as soon forget.
I always wished I had lived or been in the United Kingdom when Dinosaur was part of the Rollercoaster Tour with the Jesus & Mary Chain and My Bloody Valentine…I wish that tour had come to the states.

Hole and Nirvana – same show opening for J.? Wow. As much as I dislike Courtney Love as a person, I must admit that’d rock.

I’d like to have seen My Bloody Valentine as well.

SCUMBUCKET was the support act for the German J + The Fog gigs last November/December. I thought they were pretty good, a great opener that really rocked the venue. bought their record and think it’s brilliant.

Heres some more:
60ft dolls
Laika
These bands supported Dino in’94 at Brixton Academy.
By the way, one of my first gigs was the Rollercoaster tour at Brixton. It was amazing… first band on was Dino, followed by Blur and then M.B.V. where they played at the end of there set a ‘tune’ that ran for like 17 minutes holding on the same chord with loads of effects and feedback… thought my ears were gonna cave in. Amazing!

Hey Pickle

Laika were absolutely awful! I followed the rollercoaster tour around Cardiff, Sheffield, Glasgow and London. What a great tour! Do you remember the video playing behind Blur?

It started off with a cow (listen up ELJ – you’ll love this) and then went to a slaughter house, then a burger, then a man eating the burger, then to him having a dump. Nice.

MBV went a bit over the top on the 5 minutes of open chord noise. Jesus and Mary Chain ruled though.

MBV were ace…I was 15 and just blown away…I remember the BLUR vid…the guy took a dump on some plastic sheet on the carpet…then it went backwards remember…the shit curls of the sheet and back up the guy’s arse etc…it was bizarre. Blur were shit though…

SNOWPONY played on the last Dinosaur tour in the UK if I remeber rightly…they were Debbie Goodge’s (MBV bass player) band…pretty cack I remember.

I would have love to seen J play with a show
with Come And Bettie Serveert.
Snowpony also has an ex-Stereolab member,
I`m sure Eggwater problably knows that, does
cack mean good or bad?
