All sites I’ve checked about the announced release date for this record still say, it’s July 28th (including the Strange Fruit site)

only in Germany it’s out on August 11th
anyway, I’m also looking forward
July 21, 2003 at 7:27 am #94566Strange fruit titles are distributed by Pinnacle in the UK. Here is a link to the Pinnacle site which has this updated info.

Thats the only problem with Pinnacle some times because they have so many labels things get pushed back. Hopefully no more release date slips for Mr Mascis!!!
July 21, 2003 at 3:05 pm #94567hey empire, thanks a lot for the update and the link!

…so it looks like it’s official: the release date for the J Mascis BBC Sessions moved to August 4th
July 25, 2003 at 5:18 am #94568Goddammit!!! its gone back to the 11th Aug.
July 26, 2003 at 7:20 pm #94569"rd" wrote:Ultimatuim is probably not releasing it because they do not own the rights to those recordings. For example, when someone does a John Peel Session, John Peel, or the company/station he works for, owns those recordings and not the artist.so J doesn’t make money from this? It’s going to be hard to justify paying 30 bucks for this when I have the recordings already.
July 26, 2003 at 8:16 pm #94570i allready have these tunes too.
just like ear bleeding country.
please someone come up and say if J will be making money off this.
if not, it will stay on the shelf.
:slap:July 26, 2003 at 11:44 pm #94571I can’t tell you if J will be making money off of it or not. I would assume they would have to pay him something. The only reason I know that Peel or the BBC or whomever owns the rights to those recordings is because a cousin of mine record with Peel several years back. The band wanted to release it but Peel would not let them. It ended up getting bootlegged.
July 27, 2003 at 4:08 am #94572J will make money on this record because of the publishing royalties. Even if the songs were performed by someone else he would still make money because he wrote the songs.
In the same way, Teenage Fanclub will also make money off this record because of Everything Flows being on there.
Hope that helps!!

July 29, 2003 at 1:46 pm #94575think they could milk some fans if they released to different covers..
it’d be a smart move…
July 29, 2003 at 2:02 pm #94576hey empire, thanks for the update, looks like one should check the Pinnacle site daily
