Spaceboy and Jebus alluded to this, and it peaked my interest because I’ve got a literally 24-hour each way road trip coming up with some buds of mine. What’s some great road trip music to keep people awake?
Ones I doubt many will mention:
RATM – anything (you try sleeping thru it)
311 – anything (ditto)August 8, 2001 at 3:06 pm #64453Modest Mouse, ‘Lonesome Crowded West’
‘Nough said!
August 8, 2001 at 3:34 pm #64454On a roadtrip a few years ago I listened to:
Teenage Fanclub-Grand Prix
Drop 19`s-Deleware
Zoom-Helium Octipede
St. Johnny-Speed Is Dreaming
Bettie Serveert-Lamprey
Uncle Tupelo-Still Feel Gone
Pavement-Crooked Rain Crooked RainAugust 8, 2001 at 4:21 pm #64455Hey,
Just back from a roadtrip couple weeks back…definitely need great songs to keep you awake…mostly to watch out for the other crappy drivers
Of course you will be bringing your whole collection of Mascis discs…a definite must. More Light worked wonders for us,
JAMC…Barbed Wire Kisses
Sugar…Copper Blue
Hellacopters…High Visiblity and Disappointment BluesThese should keep you guys awake

Thanks, Allison, I agreed with every one of those… they should do nicely.
August 8, 2001 at 8:45 pm #64457Sorry but "APPETITE FOR DESTUCTION" by Guns n Roses is a great road album!
-Mogwai "TEN RAPID" rocks!…and "ROCK ACTION"
-The Flaming Lips "Soft Bulletin"
-Mercury Rev "Deserter Songs"
-Grandaddy "Software Slump" "The Windfall Varietal"August 9, 2001 at 12:09 am #64458Right on about SV’s Trace. It’s a GREAT road album. In that same vein, I like to trip to UT’s "Anodyne," Wilco’s "Being There" and Willie Nelson’s Greatest Hits.

deepsludge, jebus, I’ll check out son volt…
August 9, 2001 at 4:03 am #64460VERY UNDERSTANDABLE!!!
a band i liked when i was younger that will always have a place in my heart… ha! August 9, 2001 at 5:49 am #64461Son Volt is an excellent suggestion. I listened to them a lot when I was traveling through the US this summer. Also, This is a long drive for someone with nothing to think about by Modest Mouse, besides having a wonderful title, is also a great album for the road. And, of course, you should start out with Where You Been. I mean, shouldn’t everything start with "Out There"?
Then, when the sun sets, and melancholy is all over your car and the lonesome, dark road – play something less loud. I suggest Leonard Cohen’s Songs from a room, Neil Young’s Unplugged, and Bob Dylan’s Another side of Bob Dylan. Of course, these won’t help much in keeping you awake. Oh, well. Being awake is overrated anyway.
August 9, 2001 at 10:41 am #64462Jaron-before checking out Son Volt you should check out Uncle Tupelo, that was the band Son Volt and Wilco members were in before.
There`s a Son Volt video for"Drown" at launch.com so you may want to check that out.August 9, 2001 at 3:21 pm #64463
quote:
Originally posted by jasper:

You apparently haven’t ever went anywhere with me. We’re going into Canada and back in literally 60 hours (including the time we’re there). Being awake is deifnitely a requirement.
August 9, 2001 at 3:39 pm #64464Hey ELJ,
I second the Flaming Lips Soft Bulletin suggestion…also Clouds Taste Metallic…no doubt that one would keep you up…for days!!!
Also wanted to make sure you kept a close eye on your travel companions…make sure you make clear the rules about those nasty water bottles You know what I mean…can never be to sure about people, what a find for the customs guy…

Allison… what are you talking about?
August 9, 2001 at 8:38 pm #64466Hey ELJ,
I can’t believe you didn’t see that thread, hmmm was thinking of letting you find out the hard way but just couldn’t do it.
http://www.freakscene.net/cgi-bin/ubb/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=4&t=000199I think you will understand why Watt can legitimately be called that special name and why I avoid Volvic water Of course my warning will make complete sense after you read that post…I even discussed it with Voodoo Guy b4 our last roadtrip
Allison…just being helpful
