This is a special treat for me. And unfortunately, too much of a rare occasion these days. But here they are:

      1) Sonic Youth with Les Georges Leningrades opening: Metropolis, Montreal. On my birthday. Anytime, anyday 8)
      2) Andrea Nan and Michael Ondaatje: Centaur Theatre, Montreal. The first half was a poetry and text reading by one of my favorite authors. This was a unique and beautiful event. A very minimalist setting, with the author sitting at his desk, reading in a sobering light. The secong half, a piece about loss by Andrea Nan, was perfectly choreographed and as brilliantly executed–the accompanying electracoustic music was also flawless. On this night, all elements seemed to come together in a perfect way. I would like to thank my friend Michelle Sullivan, of Michelle Sullivan Productions in Montreal, for giving me the chance to see this show.
      3) Mark Burgess & Kwasi Assante w/The Messengers: Agave restaurant, Atlanta. It was well worth it to travel several hundred miles to witness the singer, songwriter, bassist and guitarist, along with the percussionist, of my close-to all time favorite band play in such fine form and also to meet a lot of people and fans from across the divide.
      4) I almost forgot! Bob Marley tribute: The Medley, Montreal. In one of my favorite venues. T’was too smokey, but 8)
      5) What-would-have-been: Lollapalooza, NY. :?

hey fata morgana, you’re lucky girl, you had the chance to see SY this year! :)

hey Jaron, didn’t you mention, you’ll have a chance to see Blonde Redhead some time this month? I’d do a lot to see them, as I’m a lot into their last 2 albums :)

my favourite shows this year? oh, where to start?!

          Great:
          Modest Mouse
          the Fall
          Mark Lanegan
          Mercury Rev
          the Thermals

          Good:
          Adam Green
          Twilight Singers
          St Thomas
          Soulwax
          Woven Hand
          Secret Machines
          Interpol

Interesting: the bunch of shows by bands which I didn’t know before, where I was introduced to their music by seeing them live:
          Tara Jane O’Neal
          Volcano, I’m still excited!!
          International Tussler Society (aka Motorpsycho)
          Swearing At Motorists
          Helter Skelter

…there might have been some more, but my mind didn’t come up with them right now :?
