Has anyone played with Big Muffs and notice that it really doesn’t sound like J’s fuzz? Crazy. Well, I am getting a ZVex Looper, maybe that will have one of his fuzz variations in it. J uses a ZVex Lo-Fi Looper in a lot of his accoustic-electric shows, I believe.

I get the feeling that alot of J’s tone is from his Marshalls.

You’re expecting to get fuzz out of a Lo-Fi Loop Junky? ???

heheh. Guess I need a Marshal amp for starters.

Yeah, J’s fuzz is very unique to me. My electro-harmonix Big Muff just doesn’t cut it. However, when I visit my father (who is a music junky too), he has some sort of mini-amp. Can’t remember what it’s called, but one of the effects, sounds JUST LIKE "HEAVEN!" Not the song, heheh. The fuzz effect sound just like J’s fuzz in the intro to "Alone" from Hand It Over. When I go visit my pop, I’m going to be recording some songs I’ve made, and I’ll be relentless at that fuzz effect. *cold chill*

I’ve read that you can. Whether it involves a separate fuzz pedal altogether or not, I don’t know.

See SonicD’s default pic? That’s the Big Muff I have right now. I’ll be looking for the older ones for sure. Jimi Hendrix had a really good one too.

Do you remember Celebrity Deathmatch on MTV? The theme song had a really good example of the fuzz that I am looking for as well.

While you are correct that Jimi used the FuzzFace on all his albums, I remember reading in an interview with Mike Matthews that Jimi had one of the first Big Muff prototypes in 1970, and he was using it in the studio. Supposedly, Jimi liked the sound of the Big Muff better than the FuzzFace, and intended to use it on his future recordings.

Of course… we will never know whether or not that was the case.

the big muff was made in 69, but it was very rare because it was only made by one guy. i dont know, he could have got it but i doubt it. i heard rumours about him using les pauls in studio too. i dont know if its true though.

if you want jimi, strat, fuzz face, marshall. nothing else
