I love every song on Yer Living All Over Me and Bug, but one thing bugs me: why the heck doesn’t J sing the chorus of Budge when they play it live? In my opinion, it really weakens an otherwise great song. If he really can’t or doesn’t like to sing the chorus, why bother to play it at all? I mean, there are so many other great songs from Bug–if they are only going to play one or two per night besides the obligatory "Freak Scene," then why waste it on a song minus a chorus? Personally, I think even the verses aren’t so great live, since the harmonies are missing, too (why can’t they have Lou sing them?). I just wish they would either come up with a better live version of the song, or just drop it in favor of songs like Post, Let It Ride, No Bones, Yeah We Know, etc, etc, etc. Almost every other aspect of their recent shows has been so great, the chorus-less version of "Budge" is a real mystery to me.

it’s always been like that.- probably because it felt strange to mumble over the riff live.

well, if that’s the case(which it ain’t) he would probably learned it by now, since they have played it live, since ? ..1991? or maybe already from the bug tour?

Earliest known recording of "Budge" played live would be Maxwell’s/Hoboken NJ, Sept. 1988. I think there’s a version or two were he mumbles a bit over the chorus, but what I find more weird is the totally vocal-less "They Always Come" (except for the singing at the end).

if he doesn’t like the lyrics he could change them. Like he use to do live in other tunes

yeah, he could use the part he sings live in the country part of Forget the swan, the lines from Cats in a bowl.

I think it’s pretty cool how he sometimes change the lyrics live. But I’m not sure if he really change them,
I think he just forget what to sing and make something up.

i think its just one of those things where its kinda not meant to have vocals on the live version kinda like how in let it ride he sings "ill be by your side..etc" over the solo but not live. i just kinda took it as that.

they allways come.. ya got me haha. id still love to hear it.. either way.

                        and budge is allways great.

I think you mean the verse-less version of "Budge". I’d say the part he sings is actually the chorus. Or he basically alternates 2 separate verses and leaves out the 2nd. Or not. I dunno.
