Drove 100 or so km’s after work. Arrived kinda late with setting up for Dino in progress. Found my spot front and centre of the small, low stage and about 10-15 minutes later Dino casually walked on stage. They started by ripping into Almost ready and by the end lou’s SVT head had blown. After a glowing endorsement by lou along the lines of …these fuckin’ SVT amps are a piece of shit, one song and it’s already blown..,a quick switch to an Ampeg and things were back on track. The guys looked quite tired and the early songs lacked a bit of intensity with Lou even remarking how jetlagged they were (no surprise to anyone who has seen their schedule). ‘Out there’ was a welcome addition to the set from last time around, along with ‘Little fury things’ just prior things began to amp up,the front of the crowd going nuts. After spotting the setlist earlier ,I figured ‘Pick me up’ would be the stand-out song(being my fave from Beyond )and it turned out that way. However, from ‘Feel the pain’ (not usually one of my favourites) through to the end, things just steamrolled with each next song bettering the last. Jetlag Schmetlag. Along with ‘Pick me up’ the highlights would have to be ‘Forget the swan’ (think Rollins Show quality with awesome energy) and Sludgefeast (just insane). Overall sound was really good. Lou was awesome, the perfect counterpoint to J. Murph hammered it out with ease, highlighting what an integral part he is in the scheme of things. He killed it in ‘Forget the swan’,ripped it apart. J’s tone was utterly amazing. Yes I wore ear plugs, but had to edge the left one out just that little bit to capture an extra ounce of that sublime sound. I think I even had tears welling up in my eyes during the ‘Pick me up ‘ solo .Well that’s a bit about my night. Great show ,couple of shirts, poster, some pictures and a setlist.
Like just about everybody else on here.
