July 12, 2005 at 7:41 am #110835I love the BBQ reference on the setlist. The show poster was a numbered screen print (120 made). Do they have these at every show? After I bought mine, I handed it to my wife and sent her to get it signed backstage (I was too chicken). She came back five minutes later and said to come back with her, J said it was cool. During the time I wasn’t there, she told J it was the "third best show" that she had seen, and that she was more of a Fog fan. He asked who was better. She said the Stooges reunion and Steely Dan at Roseland. He said that he thought that those were great shows, too. I can’t believe we forgot the camera. I wanted to get a couple of shirts, but they were out of XL. Bummer. I asked Lou about Sebadoh III and he said it and others will be reissued.
July 12, 2005 at 7:51 am #110836NC DAN, I am really glad you had a such a great time. What a fantastic show and getting to meet up with J and all. I know we have had our differences but I just wanted to tell you that I am loving it, watching all of these fans totally digging on the experience and then sharing it. S.
July 12, 2005 at 8:38 am #110837I second that, glad to hear what a great time you had. I’m hoping to duplicate your experience in Boston on Friday. If I can somehow get a picture with J, Lou and Murph I’ll probably freak out.
July 12, 2005 at 8:40 am #110838i was at this show too. i had a great time. i think it was the only show i’ve ever been to where i enjoyed the opening acts just as much as the main band. a lot of people didn’t seem to dig Magik Markers, but I thought they were great. Quite intense… i got scared for a minute when the singer (Elisa) started grabbing people’s heads.
Superchunk sounded great too. Believe it or not, it was the first time i’ve heard them. And of course, Dinosaur was genius. My only "complaint" is that the crowd seemed really unenthusiastic about it. I was going nuts, of course, but everyone around me was just kind of standing there. I guess some people were in awe, but one guy next to me was text messaging on his cancer-phone almost the entire time. oh well, i had a blast.July 12, 2005 at 10:21 am #110839thanks so much for all the pics and reviews. totally nice and cool to read and view all that …makes me wish that I’d have been there, too
July 12, 2005 at 11:44 am #110840I wish all of you could have been there. I wish I could follow them around and see every show! The way the set lists are shuffled, songs coming and going, I want to see them all! Yeah We Know and Let It Ride among many. (I have always loved the "sweet harmonies" on those songs).
I want to mention the actual performance. They are obviously having fun. They attack their instruments, just like the old days, but better. Lou, who I have always considered one of the best bassists EVER really goes nuts. Seriously, who has ever come up with sicker bass lines than Lou? I loved his dead pan "this is from our first (etc) album" intros to songs. J crushes you. He is a one man orchestra. Somewhere, Frank Zappa is smiling. Murph? My only description could be UNBELIEVABLE. He has always been like a controlled Keith Moon, and he shows that now. My absolute favorite song of the night was Budge. It’s a song I used to LOVE 17 years ago. It (and all the others) took me right back to 1988 at the Ritz, NYC (but better!). Listen to it. The interplay between the guitar, bass and drums and the great harmonies. It’s a monster.
July 13, 2005 at 7:06 am #110841this really was a great show. the majek markers were actually really good, very hard to explain, but I think they opened for Sonic Youth at their last cradle show. i almost think superchunk stole the show- they also went back to their first 2 records and EPs, and played all old school shit. they played sprang a leak, cast iron, slack mother fucker, precision auto, tie a rope to the back of the bus, breadman, let it go and more. they were really tight and obviously having lots of fun.
however dinosaur was so good. i knew they would be loud, but not that loud. J plays with 4 marshall stacks, 3 heads, processors, and tons of pedals. Lou and Murph were also really loud! I was so excited to hear songs off the first 3 records, but i think a lot of people were expecting new stuff too.
thanks for the pics and set list info. does anyone have a copy of the show? I know there are BTs available for 7/8 and 7/12. i am trading to get the atlanta show, but i really want the cats cradle show. -
