CD Players

I`m thinking of buying a new cd player sometime in the future,my old one needs to be retired.
You know those cd players that hold 100 or 200 cd`s in it?are they good quality or should I avoid them?Am I better off to buy one that holds 5?

In my experience, get a 5. The big changers just don’t work well and are slow.

I recommend going with a mega-storage changer. I have (and use) both a Sony 200 disc changer and a Sony 300 disc changer. Sony makes a 400 disc changer and a 300 disc cd/dvd changer. I like mid-level Sony players because they aren’t too expensive, and they will display the names of the cd in a output screen on the front of the player (cd-text). It will automatically display the track titles and name of the cd if they are on pressed on the disc, if they are not, the mid-level sony players let you enter the name of the discs into the player by using your remote or keyboard. You can also connect multiple (2 or 3) changers together and control them all with one remote.

Yes, like Jaron said, they are slower than a 5 disc changer but you also have to consider the fact that with a 5 disc changer it would take more time to walk over to the 5 disc changer and change out cd’s that are not currently in the 5 disc changer than if all your discs were in one or more mega-storage changers.

I recommend going with mega-storage changer.

I guess, to be honest, my bigger problem was I loaded all my CDs in one and constantly forgot what CDs were what numbers. That greatly incresed the time. Ones with bad memory need not apply!

I know a couple people who have the mega-changers, and I think they’re kind of a waste of money, unless you really find the act of manually switching cds daily to be a chore.

Even in smaller disc changers, dirt can and will eventually build up inside. I hesitate to leave even 2 or 3 discs in the machine at once for that reason; also, even if you are diligent about cleaning a mega-changer, it would kinda be a pain in the ass to have to take out & then reload 300 cds.

But if you’re going for the home-jukebox effect, and you have some way of keeping track of the order of the albums, I guess it’s not totally unreasonable. And in that case I would suggest investing in some neon lights and buttons to fully manifest the potential of the thing. Perhaps you could even charge your friends a quarter?

Having a player that displays the name of the cd’s kind of takes care of forgetting where some of the cd’s are. But I had to end up making a numbered list of the cd’s in my changer.

I’ve never had a problem with so much dirt and dust building up in my changers that I had to clean it out. I’ve never had a cd skip because of excessive dust or dirt in my changer.

Actually I do…I listen to certain tracks on discs more than full discs, so I jump from disc to disc listening to songs.

A smaller disc changer wouldn’t even cover all the Dinosaur Jr /J Mascis/ J Mascis & the Fog cd’s(between the regular cd’s, bootlegs, etc).

But everyone has a player that suits their personal perference. Salamiguy, you just have to decide what type player meets your cd listening needs and go with that.
