<STRONG>Hey salamiguy, I think that your problem has a similar cause to Allison’s (it’s also happened to me.) From what I’ve gathered, the Freakscene ‘who’s online’ tracker can only grab someone’s location when they first click on a certain part of Freakscene. If that person leaves Freakscene by either going to another site or closing their browser, then the tracker can’t track it. If I remember correctly, the tracker holds onto the person’s last known location for up to half an hour… </STRONG><HR></BLOCKQUOTE>That is correct, Mattman. Additionally, if one is in the chat room, and has another IE window up looking at the site, the bottom of thwe page will not list them as in the chat room.

I’m using a pc (mac=baaaad).
Still keeps booting me out; I’ll look for you later.

September 17, 2001 at 10:14 pm #83015Alright, I’m perplexed… The basic rule of compting is that if you can do it once you can do it again…
OK, first I’d like to disclaim that I have no control over the chat function itself… That’s Jeremiah’s domain and I believe it’s still in it’s testing phases..
Anyway, I’ve got all new questions for you people having trouble…
First, what OS are you using? I’m gonna assume a version of Windows, but which one? 95, 98, ME, NT, 2k, xp?
Second, what browser are you using? Netscape, IE, Opera, etc. Also, what version of said browser are you using?
Dammit! I will defeat this browser problem!!!
I’m a man on a mission…

I’ll help since god knows I’ve wanted a chat room since day one.
We can discredit Opera as being the problem since everone knows it’s the WBoG: Web Browser of God…
September 17, 2001 at 11:31 pm #83017Once again, tried to connect thru irc, java, dune, and apple once each. Each time it said "Connected, please wait" then "connection close". After it goes thru java, it also adds "java.netSocketException: Socket read failed".
Using Windows 98 & IE. Is it just my computer?
please fix….
RosaSeptember 18, 2001 at 12:30 am #83018OK, what version of IE do you have?
Within IE goto ‘Help’ > ‘About Internet Explorer’. On the window that pops up, there’ll be a big IE logo, and right underneath will be some text. The first line will be the version # (mostly cause it says ‘version’ ) anyway, let me know the number upto the first decimal place. (4.x, 5.x, etc.)

September 18, 2001 at 1:16 am #83019I am using Commodore 64 and Quantum Link….. see if you can do something with that O Mantis
Really, I am using Win95 combined with IE 5.
I have no idea how rosa was able to try connecting in all the ways she did. Beyond the most basic user functions, I am a tyro. September 18, 2001 at 1:55 am #83020Uh wait a minute there halfman… Are you telling me that you can’t get into the chat either, or were you just making a joke about the Commodore64?
September 18, 2001 at 2:19 am #83021IE is version 5.00
starting to get cranky,
RosaSeptember 18, 2001 at 2:19 am #83022Both, Mattman. Seriously, I am using Win 95 and it runs IE5 very well. The prob when I go to the chat room is that I get a little square with an "x" in the corner, kind of like a picture link that is broken.
I try to use those 2 rows of "buttons" like join etc. I get a dialog box in the upper left corner of the screen asking for info depending on what command I tried. The result is the same: it takes me to a white screen and that is it. Some one mentioned a "connect now" prompt. I do not have one of those.
I have been appealing to various members for a week or so and so far no help has been provided, just advised to wait and let the Technodieties allow me good grace and function in the proper time Do you take burnt offerings?
I did used to run my own BBS on a c-64 back in 1985-86 on two floppy drives

September 18, 2001 at 3:04 am #83023Cranketh not dear Rosa, alas problems exist for me to solve.
As for Halfman, sorry guy, you’re on your own! (just kiddin thar pardner. )
As per Rosa’s concern, ELJ, in his most-finite wisdom ( ) suggested that your subnet may be blocked since you’re getting all those weird error messages… If someone who uses the same ISP as you was naughty, some moron in charge at the chat server may have tried to block him and ended shutting out every user of that ISP… I personally, do not know how likely this is, but who knows…
On that note, anyone who can get to the ‘connect’ screen, I want you to look under ‘server name’, you should see a drop-down box right under it with a few other servers listed as options. Please try them all, and if any of them work for you, please post them here…
As for the rest of you (actually this can go for all of you), if you’re willing to invest the time, goto windowsupdate.microsoft.com. Click on ‘product updates’ on the left side of the screen. The site should automagically (there’s that word again Tonyman ) detect your Windows version and give you a list of possible updates. Try them in this order, IE6.0 update, any windows service packs, directx, critical updates. Be sure to try after each item, although updating them all is will bring your copy of windows up to date. For you dialup users, this is definitely one of those ‘start download, go to bed, hope its finished by morning time deals.’ Sorry Broadband users, however can knock it all out in an hour or so.
Well, hopefully this will get us somewhere…
September 18, 2001 at 3:55 am #83024Hold the damn phone!!! I got another question!!!
Are any of you using AOL? (That’s it, that’s the question… See, I made a big deal outta nothing.. )
September 18, 2001 at 4:14 am #83025No… I use a server provided by Verizon.. formerly GTE. Does anyone know where they are/where headquartered
September 18, 2001 at 5:27 am #83026I don’t know if its there central office, but they have a huge building really fscking close to the WTC!
