matNovember 12, 2001 at 2:35 am #53502that solo in Kracked, the build up to it and the execution get me every time, the wailing intensity of it all is just so mesmerising..
November 28, 2001 at 12:14 am #53503There are just so many. To start, "Little Fury Things." First, the intro with that insistent wah-wah and J just shrieking…it was magical. Then when J and Lee Ronaldo came together, both of their voices faltering (that gets back to that raw/imperfect aesthetic). The tiny break that comes with the maracas (is that what they are?). And the final chill that just sent me into sheerly ecstatic melancholy: the final verse where that distortion just drones and tugs at the heart. What a song, what a band.
November 28, 2001 at 10:27 am #53504Hey Shrafro,
Great description of the wicked song that brought me into Mascis Madness Once I heard that song & experienced those chills, I was sold forever on the genius that was/is Dino Jr/J Mascis

October 24, 2003 at 9:58 am #53505Nothin’ Goin’ On, right at the end of the solo, think it’s about 2 minutes and 5 secs into the song, that last "screach" gets me everytime. I’d rather listen to that split second over and over again for the next ten years than any beonce or kylie. In fact, I’d rather listen to the pauses between Js songs rather than all that MTV crap.
Also, I Kow Yer Insane is so f**king awesome, the guitar and drums seems to made for each other, a match made in heaven. The drumming sounds so right. If that makes any sense. Is it J drumming? Been trying to read the inlay card, but can’t make anything out.

January 7, 2004 at 11:51 pm #53507That spacey bit in "They Always Come" is ….. strangely beautiful.
It reminds me of going on holiday to the Outer Hebrides for whatever reason.
August 24, 2004 at 8:06 pm #53508the one time i saw J (february 2003) it seemed like every song gave me chills. Of course, this may have just been the volume vibrating my spine.
I think volume really adds alot to J’s songs. Allthough I value my hearing greatly, i dont really like it when a live band is playing at the same volume that i listen to their cd at… CKY for example… i saw them a few days after J and it didn’t move me at all..physically or emotionally

August 25, 2004 at 1:34 pm #53510he’s most probably talking of the legendary BBC Radio show which is called "John Peel Sessions" where the presenter John Peel invites bands & musicians to record sessions, which are broadcast afterwards in his BBC radio show.
J & the Fog did 1 session in 2000, and J did 2 solo sessions in 2002. The 3 sessions have been released last year: J Mascis, The John Peel Sessions

The song Sameday is on there, it has been taken from the J & the Fog Peel session from 2000, which has been broadcast on Jan 10, 2001 …it’s indeed a great version of the song
August 27, 2004 at 5:12 pm #53511who is CKY ?
