any reports from the show last night ?
March 8, 2005 at 2:18 pm #107609yo me and my two hot male friends went to this show and it was mad crazy. j was drinking a coca cola which is, according to my friend, the only reason he even played the show at all. in retrospect was a funny good show. we heard some mascisy guitar when the dude with the saw stopped playing
March 8, 2005 at 2:29 pm #107610The guy was playing a saw. I saw mainly J sitting just soloing. Suzanne Thorpe on flute (way too loud in the mix) Jimi Shields on bass and somebody playing something else. I thought lapsteel but maybe a saw I didn’t go up close. Met a forum member. It wasn’t tough to spot a J fan. They played like one long jam and it was cool but lacking drums like the last time I saw them. The other two bands Autolux and Secret Machines were cool. I felt like an old man there now being 28 but I met some other old school Dino fans.
March 8, 2005 at 4:35 pm #107611did you get a chance to talk to j … + specifically … ask him about the sxsw rumour ?
March 9, 2005 at 9:55 am #107612I met this Dino fan–called AmmaringNYC at the show. We went outside for a smoke.
Had no idea what this was going to be like, but really liked the first band: Trio Autolux: Good band.
Corecraft: Order in Chaos is divine. But I was slightly intoxicated at the time.
It was rare to hear meditative music or "free jazz", in an environment that would not normally encase it, but I guess that is what creativity is all about.Secret Machines: Prog-Rock meets Punk-Pop. Not my cup-of-tea but a lot of people seemed to be into them.
Kudos to the guitarist who played with all three bands.
Good luck to all the contestants.

I was just joshin’…March 9, 2005 at 12:54 pm #107615"rambleon" wrote:did you get a chance to talk to j … + specifically … ask him about the sxsw rumour ?Uhm, there’s two things I can’t seem to get myself to do in life and that is: no. 1) speaking in public and no. 2) approaching J. Mascis.
To overcome both these fears may be very important and add quality to my life–but somehow, when my heart starts pumping double-time, I go limp.
…That question would have been a very good opener in approaching the no. 2) issue and probably would have been better than "excuse me, where is the bathroom?" silly-assed question that goes through your head in times of slight… that just wouldn’t have cut it–I think.
March 9, 2005 at 3:22 pm #107616well I saw J as soon as I got out of a cab when I got there and he was with his crew and I didn’t want to interupt him. And than he came in and was standing near me checking out the first band for a minute and I just didn’t feel like asking him about the reissues or the reunion. I am more interested in the future of the fog and didn’t want to get into that for a second.
