There is sooo much music and after a while I would want more………..after a short while!

I mentioned here a while back the Mario Batali/Micheal Stipe Iconclast show that I happened upon late one night at my sisters house in Atlanta. For those who have not seen the show….Michael is in a record store in NYC and he is telling the clerk…"I’m looking for that record by that great band out of Athens Ga" then there is a pregnant silence and he says "Neutral Milk Hotel"………that’s it, Do you have them?"
I shouted out loud……..I can’t believe I just heard that, Oh, my Gosh.

Here is the scene where Michael gives him the Neutral Milk Hotel as a gift………and since Mario is a big Grateful Dead fan……..he says it’s to help bridge the gap between the Grateful Dead and other music.
Also it’s a funny scene when Micheal has built up the whole going to Toronto to see U2 and the plane is delayed due to bad weather……….I would have taken that as a sign and gone to do a thousand other wonderful things in Toronto…………I’d rather get into a car and drive to eat Poutine with SG than to see U2 play that venue.

Damn this is hard. I’d have to say, in no particular order:

          1. Guided By Voices – Same Place the Fly Got Smashed

          2. Neutral Milk Hotel – In the Aeroplane Over The Sea

          3. Sebadoh – III

I changed my mind today after putting on Greenmind to clean house to……..
I would take Greenmind which is in my humble opinion flawless and try and get away with that
            Caledonia disk down my britches.

Yeah, I’m not sure if there is even one freakin’ note, one sound that is not perfection on that disk.

I agree. I remember getting that disc when it came out and reading the liner notes, "Written, Preformed, and Produced by J Mascis" or somethng to that effect. Ever since then I’ve always wanted to write preform and record my own album. Hopefully sometime within the next couple of years that will become a reality.

Anyways yeah that album is my favorite of all time.

Yeah, Tonas you are a bit younger than me, although we have kids about the same age mine are (12 1/2, 11 (called Catholic twins) and 8 and 2.

When Greenmind came out I was almost 30 and all the young kids were saying…….man, he recorded that album by his self………that’s all him. He wrote, produced and played everything………the real truth is almost but NOT
                    exactly.

I remember, hearing some dude at a party or in a bar………going crazy with trying to spread the love of Greenmind, and he kept saying…….he’s a one man band.

it conjured up images in my what was a fairly drug induced foggy mind of a J Mascis that worked something like this………http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZSh1tSJ25M8 ZSh1tSJ25M8

I would laugh and laugh, at my inner thoughts. I wanted to go the the "Greenmind" tour and see J doing that…….God, I so wanted to. LOL Thats not to say he wasn’t the Mastermind behind the "mind".

J did`nt do everything on Green Mind.Don Fleming of Gumball on guitar on The Wagon and I suspect he did the crazy slide stuff near the end of How`d You Pin… Murph played on 3 songs.

What? You have to be kiddin’ me!

Sorry because we are not together in person, I think I must explain that "I’m just kiddin’"
Sweeny mentioned that to me that online it is really difficult to understand the inference.

I love ya’ SG but I think we need to educate the public on this very Greenminded issue,
the public here at Freakscene for the most part is probably somewhat educated to that fact.
                        But Quien Sabes?

                          1. Dinosaur Jr – Where You Been
                          2. Radiohead – OK Computer
                          3. Wilco – Yankee Hotel Foxtrot

I’m not 100% sure on the last two but these are my favorite albums of all time. If we’re just doing Dino, my top three is Where You Been, YLAOM and Bug in that order.

I don’t know about this whole desert island thing. There are way too many "what if’s".

I was thinking we could turn this thread into a game.We could add 1 album each day and talk a bit about why you like it.

I know J didn’t play everything, but he did an aweful lot of it on his own. I just think its amazing to have such vision and talent to make something that great with so little help. Which is why it’s my all time favorite record. Not to mention every song is killer.

I guess we could… But I keep wondering about the circumstances surrounding us being stranded on a desert island. I know it’s not the point but I can’t help my mind from wondering.
