I know that he wrote "Lose" and "Poledo" and that he didn’t write anything on "Bug." But, how about the debut? Obviously, he sings a lot on it, but did he write any of those songs, or was it all J?

I believe J wrote all the songs the debut. He had Lou sing them because he didn’t like his own voice. Not really sure about Lose, either.

Yeah, Lou is clearly credited with Lose and Poledo. And, I’ve read in several places that J wrote all of the songs on Bug, even Lose, which, as the remaster liner-notes say "J, perversely, had Lou sing."

And, actually, I’ve noticed that my remaster of the debut album says "all songs J Mascis." I just wondered if that hadn’t been a misprint because of the Lou vocals and the very diverse styles of the songs… if it’s all J., he had a lot more eclectic songwriting style in the beginning. The liner notes of "You’re Living All Over Me" refers to "Lose" and "Poledo" as "Barlow’s songwriting swansongs," which to me kind of implies that something preceded them. If "Lose" and "Poledo" were all Lou ever wrote for Dinosaur, then I guess they were his songwriting debuts AND swansongs!

I guess you mean "J wrote all of the songs on Bug, even Don’t,…"

Anyway, without knowing anything for sure, my guess would be that Lou contributed a great deal to the songwriting on the debut album, although probably none of the songs were all "his".

Yes, thanks for catching that! Should be "all the songs on Bug, even "Don’t.""
