I guess J was doing OK. Having his wife there w/ him probably helped. They are probably in Amherst right now getting shit together. Lou has a friend coming down from Westfield w/ a bass that was at his parents’ house. He’s apparently not all that broken up about losing the bass as he had just gotten it back before the reunion.
The rest of them finally left Brooklyn about 30 minutes ago so it’ll be a huge PITA to deal w/ rush hour traffic.
August 30, 2006 at 5:15 pm #121205the message is definitely getting out there, Jonathon Cohen mentioned the Dino robbery in a current Lemonheads article on billboard…
Quote:In related news, Dinosaur Jr. was victimized by a thief last night (Aug. 29) while its trailer was parked outside a hotel in Long Island City, N.Y. Among the items stolen were several guitars, a pedal board, cymbals and a Rickenbacker bass. Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact Brian Schwartz at 303-998-0001 or Bart Dahl at 212-777-0922.http://www.earvolution.com/2006/08/dinasour-jr-gear-stolen.asp”>http://www.earvolution.com/2006/08/dina … stolen.asp

August 30, 2006 at 9:15 pm #121211This is really shitty. I guess I’ll just post this all over the internet, since there’s not much else I can do.
August 30, 2006 at 11:45 pm #121212That really sucks to be sure. But everyone will be fine. Gear can be replaced. Although there is the sentimentality attached to their instruments. But in all honesty, the band will recover. And Im sure the people who stole that stuff will be found and prosecuted. Rest assured, Dinosaur Jr will go on.
Some of you people are taking this way too seriously. "I think Im going to cry"? Come on. I can understand if that was all of YOUR gear and it was all you had and you would be out thousands of dollars if you weren’t able to play shows for a while and they were all the instruments you owned. But J has more guitars and pedals, Lou has more basses and Murph still has his drums and cymbols are easily replaced. Nothing incredibly bad will come from this. Unless the band and the cops and the theives get into some crazy shootout/car chase and everyone dies in a bloody car crash and the paramedics find the bands’ eviscerated, bullet riddled bodies. Now THAT would be tragic.
August 31, 2006 at 6:54 am #121213Looks like the news is travelling around the world! Not sure how much us folk in England can help!? But it certainly highlights the theft.
Which will hopefully help catch the thieving bastards!http://www.nme.com/news/dinosaur-jr/24158″>http://www.nme.com/news/dinosaur-jr/24158

I think I heard that too, when he was touring with the Catholics. Not sure if any of their gear turned up though, but hopefully Dino’s does and those thiefs can be caught.

When one has experienced this sort of theft, one that relates to your livelihood (ie: your way of keeping the roof over your head and food on the table, property taxes paid, the electricity on and the cell phones working) the general feeling is one of extreme violation.

Definitely a good thing, hopefully it helps.
August 31, 2006 at 1:02 pm #121218i just read this on another forum, terrible news both for the band and for the people who might not get to see upcoming shows
this is getting to be a regular occurrence unfortunately – wasn’t it camper van beethoven who had same thing happen last year? hopefully the dino equipment is distinctive enough that it will be recognized…crossing my fingers. -
