      Jonathan Cohen, N.Y.
Reunited alt-rock trio Dinosaur Jr. has signed with Fat Possum, which will release in the spring unveil the band’s first album with its original lineup since 1989. The 11-track "Beyond" is due May 1; it was recorded at vocalist/guitarist J. Mascis’ home studio in Amherst, Mass.

"Dinosaur is something where the sound just propels us," bassist Lou Barlow told Billboard.com in October. "It’s an energy source unto itself. The minute we started playing together, it was like, ‘Oh, there it is.’ It didn’t surprise me though, since I’ve always believed in the quality of J.’s material."

As previously reported, a live DVD will follow later in May. Directed by Mascis’ brother-in-law, Phillip Virus, the release will include live performance footage from the first half of Dinosaur Jr.’s reunion tour, including shows in New York and Boston. In February, Nike will also make available a limited edition Dinosaur Jr. skate shoe.

Barlow recently committed to a spring reunion tour with his post Dinosaur Jr.-band, Sebadoh, but according to a spokesperson, there will be additional Dinosaur Jr. live shows this year.

Here is the track list for "Beyond":

      "Almost Ready"
      "Crumble
      "Pick Me Up"
      "Back to Your Heart
"This Is All I Came To Do"
      "Been There All the Time
      "It’s Me"
      "We’re Not Alone"
      "I Got Lost"
      "Lightning Bulb"
      "What If I Knew…"

Very cool news. I never would have seen that album title coming. I thought J was going to release this album himself? Oh well, definately exciting news.

I wonder how Dinosaur jr came to the decision to ink with Fat Possum instead of labels like Sub Pop or Caroline?

Did tha band seek out Fat Possum or did Fat Possum seek out Dinosaur?

I wonder what the relationship is like and how it started. If an insider lurking around here knows do tell.

I’m glad that it’s on a label with some well hyped acts like The Fiery Furnances and The Black Keys. I wonder why they didn’t go with Merge, maybe they’re too strickly indie rock or they would get lost in the promotion for the new Arcade Fire.

                  Which songs are Lou’s?

I agree that the song titles sound great

I think Sub Pop are still owned by Warner Bros so Dino would be back to them again,I doubt J wants that.Is Caroline still around?I`m still mad about them dropping Versus after two records >:(

Could it be that Merge didn’t offer to release it ? That fat possum was their only choice ? I’m not saying I think that was the situation, I’m merely asking for opinions.

I guess Fat Possum have moved further away from the blues they started with though stuff like Fred McDowell and RL Burnside`s older records are purely blues.

Maybe Merge was full up with releasing stuff and could`nt.It`s funny that Matador did`nt try to sign them up.

Sub Pop is partially owned by WB. Jonathan Poneman still owns 51% of it. They’re still putting out cool stuff.

Half is better than all of it.And yeah they still have a good roster, maybe not as much as the past.

Still its kind of weird seeing them sign with a non traditional indie player. I never saw it coming. Like I said before it would be interesting to find out the connection.
