So I’ve just the watched the new Dinosaur Jr Live in the Middle East DVD & the news is good, no wait great!

Ok, everything about this release screams bootleg from the packaging to the filming, But hey what were we expecting U2!?
The camera work is everywhere and you wouldn’t be surprised if you had downloaded it of FSF… BUT! Don’t let this put you off.
This is what makes this DVD perfect for every Dino fan, I’ve watched hundreds of music DVDs, but this one makes me feel like I’m there & with the Dolby digital sound in 5.1 / 2.0 or DTS digital surround its the perfect mix.The extras are cool, I won’t spoil them for anyone, But it is interesting to hear J say bug is his least favourite album out of the 3..(It’s my fav.) Anyway, buy it, love it and remember how cool last year was!
Please Please Please can we have another one for Beyond & maybe a collection of videos.
May 9, 2007 at 12:21 am #128427Ooooh, I can’t wait for it. DAMN! Beyond, LITME, and their Letterman appearance, it’s like National Dinosaur Jr month.
And actually Bug is my least favorite out of their first three too.

I just read in German music magazine "Uncle Sally’s" that Philip Virus (J’s brother in law who also brought you the Middle East DVD) is currently working on a bio/documentary focusing on J’s/Dino’s career, incl. video of the legendary 12-12-1987 "J vs Lou – guitar-bashing incident" that Thurston Moore contributed !!!

May 11, 2007 at 10:05 am #128435god, YTube blows. Would it kill them to just post a decent quicktime movie ?
I really hope it’s not all shot in that f’d up color scheme and it’s just YTube screwing up the picture.

I actually like the f’up color scheme, and was hoping the whole thing will look like that. Then again, I smoke a lot of pot.

May 12, 2007 at 12:22 pm #128438I wasn’t sure wheter I should buy this dvd, cause I have so many live dvds now. but after seeing the arty color moves, I quickly decided to order it.

Then again, I smoke a lot of pot.I don’t smoke pot, but the whole thing does in fact look like that. The whole DVD is a great work of art. Don’t expect perfect colour, the picture is "artisitically" fucked up but totally goes with the music and the music is the best thing about the DVD… Really, this is one of the best DVDs I’ve seen and I don’t really care about DVDs too much at all. It’s cool how the venues switch from the Middle East (Cambridge MA) to Irving Plaza (NYC) during the encore break – the band leaves the Middle East stage, enters the dressing room and walks onto the NYC stage for the encores ! Perfect !
Oh, and the long solo in Gargoyle is THE SHIT !!!! Plus, I am grateful that they didn’t "smoothen out" some playing mistakes in the music – during "Kracked" J hits a wrong chord by 2 frets and during "Budge" J walks to his amp to adjust the sound although he should be singing the 1st verse. Cool that they didn’t edit any of this.
Did anyone notice how fucked up and fragile Sonic Boom looks/sounds in the interview bit ?
I’m surprised how well Kevin Shields has aged
