For the low low price of £250.
Perhaps J is due for a visit from the "Queer Eye" boys. He’s not half as cool as those buffoons on "Rock Star: Supernova"

Those actually look pretty cool, though I’m not really a "sneaker guy."
July 26, 2006 at 9:15 am #119409Nobody’s asking the important question of when do they come out?, or where can I get them? I doubt they will be readily available.
July 26, 2006 at 11:38 am #119410Yeah, the Melvins sold out too
It’s nearly inevitable when you’ve been in a band for such a long time, I guess. But oh wellJuly 26, 2006 at 12:58 pm #119411throwing the sold out tag around a lot…

Quote:Tom-I dont get the sell out thing. To me, selling out means compromising your art to make a buck. J’s a musician. How does a pair of shoes mean he’s "selling out"?Agree totally with Tom, maybe you’re working with a different definition, cause I just don’t see it

Heres the article someone mentioned that reviews Dino/J’s relation to skateboarding…

July 26, 2006 at 1:52 pm #119412The only problem I see with any of this is J designing shoes for, or anyone buying shoes from, a company with such a long and well-documented history of employing sweatshop labor. Granted, in today’s globalized economy it’s hard to remain totally vigilant about the labor sources of the things we buy, but Nike’s at the top of the list of third-world labor exploiters. Given his ties to Amma and his support for her charities, I’ve always found it a little odd to see him sporting Nike wear.
July 26, 2006 at 3:18 pm #119413I never thought J would design shoes for anyone, but if he did I would think it would be New Balance since he seems to have great relationship with them. I bought some New Blance running shoes because J sported them, they’re really nice and retro. I like em’.
July 26, 2006 at 3:43 pm #119414I’ve never seen J wear anything Nike before, and I’ve seen him in concert over 20 times. He usually has Adidas on, or New Balance.
I never understood the Nike backlash. Granted, I’ve never read up on slaveshops or third world country economics. The idea of people working in slave shops is terrible to me, but I cant see people taking those jobs if there were better jobs available in those countries. Those people have to take those jobs because they are the best jobs available to them. It’s easy to point the finger at the big corporations like Nike, but wouldn’t those people and coutries be even worse of if Nike didnt give them jobs?

There’s no way King Buzzo would sell out or Dinosaur Jr for that matter. Selling out to me means that a band is doing whatever it can to get onto MTV and the emo scene like Green Day did.
btw I would totally buy those shoes if I ever saw them but I very much doubt they’ll ever make it to the UK, I’m sure they’d make you stand out

This might answer some of your questions:
http://www.globalexchange.org/campaigns/sweatshops/nike/faq.html”>http://www.globalexchange.org/campaigns … e/faq.html
I think the whole argument of "well, a shit job is certainly better than no job" is lousy. When the company in question is raking in millions/billions, and what enables them to make so much money is moving jobs out of places like the US — which has labor standards to enforce a worker’s right to make a decent living — and relocating them in places where the general population exists in abject poverty and often under repressive political conditions, all so that the company in question can pay the workers shit while jacking up the prices on its merchandise, it just seems immoral to me.
July 26, 2006 at 5:09 pm #119419KingTubby,
I agree with you that it is a shitty situation. But I dont think those people are better off if Nike isnt in their country. I think the major problem is the governments, not Nike taking advantage of cheap labor. I find it strange that Nike catches so much flack, but the governments dont.
Thanks for the link, I’ll read it later.

Using a company like Nike "to make a living for a poor musician" is pretty sad. And Dinos are not even making any money but Nike is. With the Dino reunion and the reissues and the upcoming album I think they are doing ok moneywise. Just a guess, I really don’t know. But I know that supporting Nike does suck. Not pointing fingers here or even the shoes and the whole case, it just seems weird to me, wanting to support a company that’s fundamentally so evil with music/band name that’s so sweet….
