August 29, 2006 at 6:19 pm #119457Of course sweatshop labor sucks, but I’d really like to know what all of you boycotters are wearing on your feet. Pretty much everything is manufactured the same way. Even Vans who used to have the slogan Made in the USA is no longer made here.
At least Nike is building skateparks and soccer pitches for kids. So they are giving back, and the sb line only sells to core skateshops which really helps them out because you don’t really make much on skateboard hardware. Anyone that wants a pair should look for your local skateshop that sells Nike SB shoes and ask them if they’re getting them.
My friend works for SB so I’m lucky to have a free pair headed my way when they’re done. Personally I think they’re pretty sick. Dinosaur has been such a big part of skateboarding that it’s the perfect marriage. I don’t know for sure, but I’m guessing the reason that J isn’t getting any money is prolly because the run is somewhere in the 2-4,000 range which isn’t much.
It still sucks for the kids making them, but like someone else said a lot of the responsibility falls on their governments for allowing it to happen.
Kind of off topic, but if you like Dinosaur you should listen to my friend Scout Niblett. I recently interviewed her for the skate magazine the Journal which comes with a zine. I asked legendary skateboarder Mark Gonzales to draw some things with questions to which I would hand off to Scout to draw things with answers. The result is the zine which comes with the mag. I think it turned out pretty well.

That was very naughty. I wonder if love tears those shoes apart.
August 30, 2006 at 2:33 pm #119461Actually, it’s not my first post. I’ve lurked here for years, but rarely post and forgot my password. So when I reset it yesterday I guess I got booted to newb status, so please, haze/flame at will, but remember, I’m sensitive.
It’s just funny that people get all gung ho about this, toss around the sellout bullshit and then go listen to Dinosaur on their ipod which is manufactured just like the shoes they love to hate. Pretty much most of the things you own are manufactured that way. I’m assuming you are using a computer when you post this stuff right? Guilty.
I’m not associated with Nike other than having a friend that works for them and I don’t fly a nike flag or anything, but get the facts straight. We live in a fucked up World. If governments are gonna allow this to happen then of course capitalists are gonna take advantage of it. It’s the American way. So unless you’re living off the land like the unibomber please spare me.
How ya like me now?

Don’t worry though, I’m gonna crawl back under my rock soon enough.
August 30, 2006 at 11:38 pm #119462Damn, man that is just too funny. I would actually buy those just for the funny factor. Who the hell at Nike listens to Dinosaur Jr and who would greenlight that line of sneaker? Pretty cool but ridiculous at the same time.
August 31, 2006 at 12:00 pm #119463Nike SB is Nike skateboarding. Dinosaur Jr. has been one of the most influential bands in skateboardings history. There’s a video called Memory Screen by a company called Alien Workshop, and the soundtrack is mostly dinosaur Jr. J is friends with the owners of the company. Alien Workshop even made some tour shirts for them. That video was the first time I ever heard their Byrds cover Feel A Whole Lot Better ( I wish they would play it live, I would even sing the Artie "Are You Ready" Sinatra part!) It was one of the most influential video’s of its time. Also, Spike Jonze’s very first video which is considered the most legendary skate video ever called bLind video days has a Dinosaur Jr. track in it as well. The skate world has had nothing but love for Dinosaur Jr. since the mid eighties. I used to buy tapes from bands that would advertise in Thrasher magazine because I grew up in the middle of nowhere and didn’t have access to shows or even a good record shop. That’s how I discovered Dinosaur Jr. and they’ve been my favorite ever since. So to answer your question that is how Dinosaur Jr. have a shoe on Nike. Nike SB is somewhat of a different entity. It didn’t come from stuffy business execs, it came from the skaters that grew up listening to Dinosaur Jr.

If you have been lurking here for years, then you would know that your long-winded post has nothing to do with me. (See previous pages) It is just funny when I see such defensive dialogue on a thread and the user behind it only has one posting under their belt. Just an observation..
October 19, 2006 at 3:07 pm #119466Any word on the sneakers and when and where they will be out?
