pleaaase someone say yes (even if its a lie) i need something to smile about.
March 31, 2005 at 11:23 am #108211Wow, Maxini,
My life is so busy at the moment I am like a worker bee just doing my thing and I feel that I don’t even have enough time to just sit and think. I believe your question about my lack of enthusiasm requires not only my putting some thought into it (Which I have been doing) but also requires that I analyze my thoughts and come to some sort of conclusion. Which I haven’t. My resistance to answering your question directly seems to stem from a belief that I need to throw out all conjecture, projection and even Jealousy on my part in order to get to the true root of my telemetry regarding the reunion, which after all may be impossible for me to do. I am receiving a telemetric message about the reunion that neither feels uplifting or inspirational.
telemetry
n : automatic transmission and measurement of data from remote sources by wire or radio or other means
but hey don’t let me bum out the party, in the end it’s all good. Right?
April 1, 2005 at 6:48 am #108212I was just curious

Now I’m more kinda puzzled
And.. what are those "other means" ?
April 1, 2005 at 7:46 am #108213other means =my intuition
I am not meeting up with "deep throat" behind the dumpster outside of the Krispy Kream or anything like that.
Over all, after thinking even more, I have come to realize that just because something is not uplifting or inspirational to me
does not mean that it is not an uplifting or inspirational thing. The real truth could be that I am frustrated by my inability to go back 16 years or so and pick up my life, perhaps as I said above it is only a bit of jealousy, I can’t go back, I must go foward.
P.S. I was really digging J with Dave (both fire signs) great energy together, but I sort of knew from the start that was not going to go on and on. The thought of Lou ( a water sign) again with J gives me pain. That is such a difficult combination. Although on a positive note J has his moon in Cancer so the pain is productive (no pain no gain). Cancers are masters at Telemetry so I am not putting water signs down, they have great qualities.
BTW, I think J has done some of his best songwriting (deeper more authentic) post Dinosaur.
April 1, 2005 at 9:05 am #108214uh, if we are going by astrological signs here, Lou is a Cancer seeing as he was born on July 17th
April 1, 2005 at 9:06 am #108215but then again I don’t know what you might be talking about, so I’m easy to ignore!
April 1, 2005 at 12:53 pm #108216i think lou and j’s voices go so well togehter, when lou comes in for the chorus of "in a jar" or the last chorus of "raisans" at old dinosaur shows it flows like nothing ive ever heard. I do however feel that dave schools vocals are amazing and the only thing to compare with lou’s post lou. as far as beauty in his voice, and how good he could scream. Watts vocals were fucking amazing in a different way. Not a lou way. I cant wait to hear J + lou together on the microphones again. I think both of their voices have come a long way since 1989 and i think the change is gonna be beautiful…but thats just me..
April 1, 2005 at 12:59 pm #108217Yes, A Cancer, that is a water sign, in astrology. Water and Fire must be careful how they play together because they have to not try and overpower the other. Water puts out fire and fire will evaporate water. It can work, it just takes A LOT of holding back on both parts. Couples with this combination tend to fight often. The fighting just becomes accepted as normal with their children and all , it is sort of weird. I have seen this a few times. A part of the reason that J Mascis could be frustrated or angry, as he has said in interviews of the past is because he is a fire sign with a water moon, so this fighting or trying to overpower and then holdback is like an internal struggle. That is not an unusual condition for earth people to have.

True
April 1, 2005 at 2:33 pm #108219I just hope the shows in Europe go well and they prove they can play together enough to have them decide on a tour here in the States. That would be incredible if it happens, I can’t even think of how great!
April 1, 2005 at 2:46 pm #108220So they’re not playing on Letterman, right? Just the Late Late show?
April 1, 2005 at 2:48 pm #108221Far as we know it’s just the Late Late show…but fingers crossed they make it to Letterman as well…
April 1, 2005 at 5:39 pm #108222No Letterman yet. I’m guessing the only way they’ll play Letterman is if they do a "succesful" U.S. tour and make it through New York…although I can see them more realistically playing Conan. I think it would be amazing if they did Saturday Night Live so they could do 2 songs.

As for Lou and J’s astrological signs and such…I think a tour would be fine. They’ve both aged 15 or so years since breaking up and I think they would have more fun now then when they first played together. Sometimes it takes age to make you lighten up about life and relationships. I think the shows will be like the past year’s Pixies reunion where the band was just smiling and having fun. I think Lou and J will be able to forge a friendship once again.
It will just be good to see them together again.
Quote:I think J has done some of his best songwriting (deeper more authentic) post Dinosaur.I agree with this, but it would be good to see the original band play the original songs. In L.A. it looks like Dinosaur will open for J and the Fog. That would be a kool tour, that way we can still hear J’s newer stuff. Or J could open for Dinosaur. More bang for your buck.
April 2, 2005 at 12:42 pm #108223You could be right about that Letterman thing, although they have performed twice on his show in the past, you can download the two Letterman Dino Jr vids from FreesoFree
Letterman was hilarious after they played The Wagon, apparently they were really loud, he was scratching his ears asking someone to pick up the damn phone…wonder if his ears rang for days

I’d love to see them on SNL, J was a guest guitarist a couple years back, they only played short clips of him doing Out There. He did stand on the stage at the end & wave to everyone…

Don’t forget this rumor that a certain dB found, if it turns out to be true, fingers crossed it will lead to a Letterman appearance in the summer…
While searching for something completely different I stumbled across this one:

Dinosaur Jr. Reunion Update etc…
Though J. Mascis probably didn’t think I was gonna go and blog about it like a spazzy, annoying know-it all, I ran into him today at Urban Outfitters (okay, yuk it up) on Broadway, and he told me in his usual not-too charismatic way that Dinosaur Jr. might play a reunion show at Summer Stage in Central Park this summer. He said other stuff, nothing too scandalous, but it would be dickish to repeat all the details since I was prying in a fan-ish way and not a reporter way. None of it was about Lou Barlow, by the way. Since the potential show is still a few months away, J. warned, "Anything can happen." Meaning it may not happen. But I’m thinking it probably will. I think they should do a tour. Next Sunday, he and Susanne Thorpe, as Corecraft, open for the Secret Machines at Irving Plaza.April 2, 2005 at 1:22 pm #108224Quote:I’d love to see them on SNL, J was a guest guitarist a couple years back, they only played short clips of him doing Out There. Dinosaur shows. Now that Tim Meadows is no longer on the show I don’t know if they would be able to play since they are not the "flavor" of the week band…although when Donald Trump hosted it, Toots and The Maytalls played and they are not the most well known band. We can only hope. It would most likely depend on how succesful the reunion is. When they played Letterman back in the day, Dinosaur Jr was riding the whole "alternative" popularity wave. Only time will tell…
