      Hello

Yesterday was a great day. Dinosaur Jr played at Tavastia for first time and they sure played loud!
The concert began with a warm-up band called Hero Dishonest, which seemed to enjoy opening for Dinosaur Jr. Apparently they had many friends in the crowd, because there was a good contact beetween the audience and the band.

Eventually, after the strong opening, it was time for the main act of the day. The crowd had to cheer for quite a while before the band entered the stage and when they did, it was time for some serious rocking. Bulbs of Passion….
The band did not say much beetween the songs, except for Lou who mentioned that someone had broken his glasses last time he was in Finland. Their tour has been going on for so long, that they might not be so interested to talk a lot every night they play, however they seemed to have fun playing. J Mascis made a really noisy set, which made me improve the position of my earplugs every 5 minutes and now I’m having a lil’bit pain in my ears, along with my neck and knees, which has nothing with noise to do. The audience had a really good time. People were jumping and dancing, some were even stagediving!
I suppose no-one who was there will forget the gig.

After the gig I was lucky to get a set-list which you can see below.

      1. Bulbs of Passion
      2. Gargoyle
      3. Raisans
      4. Forget the Swan
      5. Budge
      6. Little Fury Things
      7. Tarpit
      8. In a Jar
      9. Quest
      10. No Bones
      11. Kracked
      12. Sludgefeast

      13. Just like Heaven
      14. Freakscene
      15. Mountain Man

      16. Chunks(according to the setlist, but I think it was The Lung. Someone please correct me if I’m wrong.)Â

we opened for them also in Stockholm and i can say this was easily the biggest honour i´ve had in my life, opening for one of the greatest bands ever, if not the greatest.. and i started my birthday last night in Dinosaur´s moshpit, how cool is that?! we thought it was cool and funny to mix an indie rock band with hardcore/thrash but were still nervous about the crowd´s reaction. lotsa people seemed to appreciate the mix, and in Helsinki we heard some people saying that bigger bands should always have totally different sounding smaller bands opening for them.. i totally agree.

there was a stupid riot fence between the stage and the crowd, so there was no diving going on unlike in Stockholm which seemed not to disturb the band except when some idiot tried to grab J´s mic during Freak Scece, J punched the guy in the chest with his guitar.. ;D

the sound in Helsinki was ten times better in Helsinki than in Stockholm. and it was soooooooooooooooo loud. i wore earplugs but my ears were ringing still this morning.

they played Chunks in Stockholm but not in Helsinki.

          Hi,

Aatos: Thanks for your nice review! I was there too and I took some pictures of Dinos as I promised earlier. I hope they can tell the rest about the atmosphere of that evening. You can see the images here:

I’m happy I bought a pair of Hi-Fi ear plugs before the concert ;) My friend had to move back during the first song to save his ears. Othervise the gig was great!

Mike Disco: I didn’t hear the vocals so good, would’ve liked to. But otherwise I liked your set! I think it was good because it was different than Dinosaur Jr. It would have been stupid if there had been a band who played Dino-covers or so…

Timppa: Great fotos! I’ll have to save them on my computer! You can actually see my hair on one of the photos, but the photo below is my favourite one, because the two guys from right are my friends. We are still having pain in our necks… :D

(Duh, I never manage to get the pictures working…)

Crazyloud: Yes, we sure were lucky that day! Helsinki is a great place to visit, especially when it’s summer! :D
