Anybody got any good dinosaur sound-alike setups? I’m saving up money and I’m looking to get an american tele and a marshall half-stack of some sort (thinking plexi reissue or old JMP) Anybody got any tips on the amp/amp settings for the marshall thing? (also any stomp-boxes you can use for a distortion like j’s?) Last question, was J using that fender tonemaster of the guy from cobra verdes when he toured with them? i was thinking about checking one of those out instead of a marshall maybe because lee from sonic youth uses those and if j uses one….you get the point

I would really like to get one of the older Marshall cabs (with the silver-ish cloth) and get a Marshall 1987x Plexi head for it. J’s studio sound is going to be different from his live sound as everyones is pretty much. Get an old American Fender guitar, and either an old tube Marshall halfstack or an old American Fender amp, like, J has an old Bandmaster combo with three tens in it that he used on Hand it Over. If you could find one of those, he preffers three tens over the four ten model. Dont use humbuckers, P90’s are his prefference and single coils of that sort. P100’s are humbuckers by the way. I’m not really sure of how much you know about guitar gear, so dont get mad if it seems like im talking to you like you dont know anything about it. You’re looking to spend a lot of money for J’s sound. As for a pedal:
Distortions I would get an old Superfuzz, Big Muff or a Z. Vex distortion. J has an Ibanez AD9 analog Delay, (its bright pink) MXR Blue Box, Groove Tubes Trio, Custom Audio Electronics 3+ Tube Preamp, Custom Audio Electronics Super Tremolo, MXR Phase 100, Electro-Harmonix Small Clone, E.H. Memory Man, E.H. Deluxe Electric Mistress, and the E.H. Clone Theory.

Gear J also used on Hand it over includes:
Vega 6 String Banjo from the 30’s,
        Gibson Acoustics include:
        1967 Hummingbird
        1969 Dove
        50’s LG-2
        40’s Gibson J-45
        40’s Gibson LG-2

        Fender Electrics include:
1965 Sunburst Jazzmaster (the one he gave away…his first guitar I think?)
        1962 Blue/Tortoise p.g Jazzy
        1965 Lake Placid Blue/white p.g. Jazzy
        1959 Blue/gold anodized p.g. Jazzy.
        1957 Esquire
        1958 Telecaster

        Gibson Electrics include:
1961 Les Paul Jr. (cherry…sg shape)
1952 Les Paul Goldtop (possibly one the first 100 ever made).
1962 Les Paul Special White (SG shape)
1959 Les Paul Jr cherry (Double cut away).

        Gretsches include:
        1965 Double Anniversary (green)
        1967 Tennesseean (red)

        Danelectro guitar:
Pro 1 ("I’ve got a couple Dan Electros. I have no idea what model this one is, but I know it was made in the fifties. I like its weird Flintstones-ish shape.")

        Vox:
        Phantom 12-string

        Martins:
        1965 experimental model.
        1968 D-28S
        1967 5-18
        1965 D-21

        Amps used are:
        Fenders:
        1959 Bandmaster (3-10 model)
        1959 Twin
        1956 Champ
        1961 Concert

        Marshall:
        (various colors on various cabs).
        80’s JCM800 (used as a bass amp)
        1968 Purple Plexi 100-watt Superbass

        Vox:
        Super Berkeley with 210 cabinet.

Ammaringnyc how would you compare the Lamb’s head to the other Big Muff’s like the green sovtek ? Does J use 2 Big Muffs and which ones does he use ? I think it’s an early one and a sovtek but I don’t really know. Anyone know ? wonder why he doesn’t use one for his acoustic setup.
