I just bought my husband an XM car radio and subscription for his birthday. I am wondering if anyone has heard Dinosaur, J, etc. on XM and if so, what stations? There is a lot to sift through still and I am hoping that I made a good investment. Also, if there are any other good stations in general, let me know.
May 1, 2006 at 10:35 am #116837I just bought my wife a new car and it came with 3 months of XM radio for free. I didn’t think I’d be into it, but I totally love it. I haven’t heard Dinosaur yet, but I wouldn’t be surprised to hear them on XM. There is a classic alternative channel that plays some pretty rad old stuff. I think its called FRED, channel 42 or so. The channel XMU plays cool indie/college rock, alot of which I have never heard. Hopefully soon I’ll hear some Dinosaur, Lord knows I won’t hear it on the FM stations.
May 6, 2006 at 4:43 am #116838Pardon my ignorance but what’s XM? It sounds like some kind of digital car-only radio thing. Is that right??? If so, why?
May 7, 2006 at 12:08 pm #116839XM is sattelite radio – you can have it in your car or in your home, but you must buy the receiver and then a subscription. It is pretty cheap and we love it.
BTW, since I wrote this post, we just heard "The Lung" on Ethel last night at about 2 am on our way home.. We freaked out.
I love Fred and XMU too, but Ethel is now my favorite.
May 8, 2006 at 7:13 am #116840My sister turned me on to Satellite radio……………We love it, got it for ourselves and my Dad. Our family
drives down to Florida, to Anna Maria, and then usually on to the Miami and then to the keys to visit my husbands
family……………it is perfect for that kind of thing…………….that’s a lot of driving……….on our way back
home we would usually burn out on the 30 or so cd’s we brought and regular radio with it’s onslaught of commercials makes you want to taste the end of a gun in your mouth…………………..I haven’t heard any J
or Dinosaur Jr. but I tend to only listen to those stations when I’m alone in the car, which happens rarely.
Even though I am embarrassed to say it here,
, I had it on the Jam band station the other day, and I don’t even know what band it was, but it was great to listen to the Jam band station, I drove 30 miles while listening to the same song, with all the windows down, 78 degrees outside. I also like the talk stuff, news programs, etc………….May 8, 2006 at 8:39 am #116841sounds like a great idea … wish they had that over here …

If your into baseball games it’s rad too, the radio will display the score of the game while you listen. It’s nice not to have to wait for the announcer to say it.

May 9, 2006 at 8:16 am #116844I’ve had Sirius satellite for a little over a year, and I love it! Haven’t listened to regular radio since I got it. I’ve heard Dinosaur several times… in fact, they had a one-hour special where they interviewed J and Lou and played a bunch of Dino songs. (Unfortunatley the guy that was interviewing them was a clueless moron, and they played mostly post-Lou songs.)
June 20, 2006 at 4:54 pm #116845ive heard "feel the pain" on like 47 or 48. they play alot of alice in chains on whatever channel it was. xm is neat tho
September 30, 2006 at 6:41 pm #116846That’s so cool you heard "The Lung!" All I ever hear is "Start Choppin’" and "Feel The Pain."
