I’ve been excited about the show last night for a couple weeks now. I went, and I walked out feeling a bit disappointed.

I’m a 33 yr old male, married, career, kid on the way etc. etc. I own 3 D. Jr. CD’s, Green Mind, Where You Been, & Feel The Pain, and I’ve seen them live 3 other times…which I think qualifies me as a fan. Moreover, Dinosaur Jr. has been one of my favorite bands since college and they’re still in my CD rotation (now my iPod) after all these years. I heard they were coming to town so I got "permission" from the Mrs. to head to the show. OK, I’m stoked. Night out, good band, sweet!

Then I get to the show and I sat through a set where I didn’t recognize a single song until The Wagon about 1hr 15min into the set!!!!!!!! (oh I guess I recognized Just Like Heaven, but I didn’t come to a Cure show).

So I guess what I’m saying is, I’m ticked at one of my favorite bands for not playing my favorite songs when I went to see them play a "reunion tour." At this stage of my life I don’t have a lot of free time, and when I do I want to really enjoy it. My evening with D. Jr. was just OK. Sure J. played a mean guitar, the other 2 guys were fine, but all in all it was just OK. They weren’t all that different from the opening act, since I didn’t know any of their songs either.

So if you’re contemplating going to see Dinosaur Jr. when they come to your town, set your expectation that if you want to hear "Feel the pain" "Start Choppin’" or "Out There" I guess they forgot how to play them or they forgot that these songs are why a large part of their audience is coming to this tour.

I don’t think they’ll ever get another dollar of my money or another evening of my time.

      Sincerely,

A dissapointed Dinosaur Jr. fan in Austin

If you visited the site more often or were as big of a fan as you said you would know that Lou wasn’t in the band for green mind, where you been and without a sound, not feel the pain. Therefore consider yourself lucky they played the wagon. This tour was a reunion of the original members in support of the reissues of the first album. You should have done more research. I was suprised when they played wagon, not the other way around.

I just dont get these posts. It’s like going to watch a football game, the complaining afterwards that they didn’t throw the ball to your favorite receiver much.

I could see someone being a little upset if they went to a Dinosaur Jr show, and the band did Madonna covers all night or something, but to complain they didnt play the songs you wanted….. I just dont get it.

Sorry, but I don’t have a lot of sympathy for those who wanted to hear the later incarnation of Dinosaur play. Green Mind is the only album that is in line with the Barlow years standard. Where You Been is ok but terribly overrated, and everything after that has a boring sameness to it. For somebody who had seen them 3 times before, I’m really surprised that you never picked up the early stuff. That’s kind of like a Sonic Youth fan who has nothing pre-Dirty.

It makes sense that they would only play the first three albums because it’s a reunion tour and Lou Barlow left the band after "Bug". So, if you would’ve come on this forum beforehand, you would’ve known this. As for me, I really loved the show. I had seen them before in the 90’s and I’ve seen J Mascis and the fog. So I’ve been lucky enough to hear them play songs from their newer albums. However, I’ve never seen the original band play so I was pretty psyched to see this show. To hear them play "wagon" was an added bonus!

I dont understand how these people don’t know anything about the reunion yet they are smart enough to find this forum for dinosaur jr fans and complain about them not playing Feel The Pain etc ??? I can’t understand why they don’t come to this forum before the show and not after to find out why they don’t play those songs…. I wish these posts would stop

                    lmao!!!

This reunion tour has been going on for over a year, tons of press outlining the shows focus on the original 3 band members material.

I have a hard time feeling sorry for people who can’t enjoy a wicked concert with songs like The Lung, Raisans, Wagon Freakscene, Kracked, Quest Repulsion, Severed Lips,etc-> even if you hadn’t heard them before these are classic songs… ???

not mean just smart enough to know to investigate things before jumping into them and expecting things you shouldnt expect.

like i looove the first foo fighters album, dont like the rest, i wouldnt go to a foo fighters gig cause i KNOW id be dissapointed, maybe theyd play some songs off taht album maybe not, i dont know thats why i wouldnt go. and if i did, and i cared that much, id find out what they play before i went. its not very hard, finding stuff out through the online world is very easy these days

I saw them in Houston. I was thrilled to see J again, but I’d like for people to know that they’re apparently not playing songs off Where You Been. That was a disappointment for me.

I know all the uber fans will get on here and blast us for ignorance and infidelity. Go ahead, whatever I’m 45 and can take it. But I heard much grumbling about this while walking out of the venue. Where You Been is my favorite and it hurts to see J and know that he could be playing Start Chopping and the others, but he’s not.

I still enjoyed the show ’cause I love J, but I did feel sad. That’s just the way it was for me.

I think it might be good for J to add some more songs from WYB.

i was at that show and was in no way disappointed. It is billed as the reunion tour, so it makes sense they are going to play material from the 1st 3 records with the 3 original members who are reunited…

anyway thought i would share a few pics from the show

thanks for the pictures. they’re great. Seems to be a NEW jazzmaster among J’s guitars. A gold pickguard just like that on the dark blue Jazzmaster.
Looks like a brand new and very nice paint job.
