I came across this on the Built to Spill site. Doug mentions J as a big influence on his music.

"Pitchfork: That’s always been an interesting contrast in your music. You grew up listening to punk rock, where technique is less important, but there has always been a part of your music involving playing solos. Where did that come form?

DM: A few different places. I liked classic rock a lot. Dinosaur, You’re Living All Over Me was definitely a record that made me re-think things. Butthole Surfers, I just thought the guitar playing was incredible and drove the band. Caustic Resin. I always loved Jimi Hendrix and things like that, but J Masics made that stuff seem reachable. The things he takes from Neil Young, nothing very fast, but the way he would use the whammy bar, and how it was expressive, and the notes he would choose."

Here’s the link to the full interview.

        Yeah Doug!

If you haven’t already checked out BTS’s new CD, "You In Reverse", I highly recommend it. I’m not too nuts about the first song, but the rest of the disc is great!

Yeah, the new BTS is great. I like the first song. The guitar tone on "Conventional Wisdom" is incredible.

It’s always cool to see other musicians name J/Dino as a major influence.

            Love the new disc!!!

If you do a google search for J Mascis news, you get a ton of BTS reviews, pretty much mentioned in every review… 8)

Huge tour by BTS, hopefully I can catch a show in Canada ;D

Yea You In Reverse is a great record, it has some mind blowing solos. I think there’s definetly some similarities between built to spill and dinosaur jr. Doug Martsch covered "tarpit" when he did a solo tour. Didn’t doug and J do a few joint shows together, anyone have any audio form that ?

You seriously don’t like the first track off of BtS’ OUY? I’m pretty surprised. I think it’s one of the best songs on the whole album.
