It’s just that americans need time to think when speaking, so like is like a comma, it gives their brain a breathing space.

Like, I use it, sometimes, when I can’t convey, describe or explain, usually when I’m talking about one thing and casually stumbling into a third unrelated thing.

I want to get this video, but concert dvds are so boring.

It only seems like it became epidemic in the last 10 or 12 years. I teach college students, and it’s literally unbelievable how often they use "like." I generally manage to shame them out of talking like that in my classes, but around campus it’s unreal. Especially the ditzy girls yapping pointlessly into their cellphones — "Like, I was soooooooo like, unprepared for that quiz, like, WTF? Like, how are we supposed to, you know, like, remember all that stuff. Like, come on!!!! Like….."

The worst part is, I’ve heard younger grad students in the PhD English program talking like that. Having an English professor constantly interjecting "like" into their speech is, to me, a bit like having a Calculus prof who barely understands basic arithmetic.

It’s actually really cool. I’ve watched it loads since I bought it.

I’ll probably get it one day when I have money to throw ’round. For sure it’s a very nice price. (I would have bought it this week but the store won’t carry it yet, wall "of anticool" mart)
