so i’m going to see Dinosaur Jr on friday night and i was wondering is it really loud like people say? i mean, i like loud music, but i don’t want my ear ringing for the next couple days.
thx
April 5, 2006 at 10:14 pm #115916yes.
you ears may not only ring but bleeding is not entirely out of the question. take them. you will want them.
April 5, 2006 at 10:14 pm #115917The best way I can describe a Dinosaur Jr show without earplugs is like having nails hammered into your ears. I saw them last Saturday and after about 1/2 of the first song I put earplugs in. I highly recommend earplugs. I’ve seen J & the Fog 4 times. The one time I did not wear earplugs my ears rang for days.
Check out this thread about J and earplugs.
http://www.freakscene.net/forums/discussion/7552.0April 6, 2006 at 4:57 am #115918i saw Dino live in Toronto last July and decided to park myself right in front of the six Marshall stacks J was using. the band came out and the entire front of the crowd had an eargasm spazz all at the same time. Lou passed out earplugs to those of us in the front after the first song, but the damage was done.
for three days, i thought i was partially deaf, yelling on the phone, watching tv with the volume past 30, etc. i’ve been to a gazillion loud shows in my day, but this one was the loudest. bring some earplugs. i love Dino, but i love being able to hear a bit more.

A band handing out earplugs from stage is quite a friendly gesture.
Besides not all venues sell or hand out earplugs in the bar, at least not in Norway where I live. I hope he remembers to bring his earplug bag when they tour Europe. hah hah
April 6, 2006 at 6:02 am #115920I did not wear any (although they were in the girlfriends purse) due to my drunken state when I saw them 7/8/2005 and it left me feeling a way I had never felt before for days. Not just ringing but something else in my head that can’t be described. I was standing against the stage in front of Murph. It’s actually quite an incredible expreience, like none you’ve ever had or will again, to stand in the presence of all that raw power. You definitely want to have plugs at least available. I’m sure I’ll end up wearing them this time even though I’d like to go without.
April 6, 2006 at 7:35 am #115921please wear earplugs
April 6, 2006 at 9:19 am #115922You’ll want earplugs for sure. I saw them in August and stood directly in front of J. I wore earplugs and it sounded perfect (still a little loud). I can’t imagine what it sounded like without them. I guessing it would have hurt.
April 6, 2006 at 9:29 am #115923Yeah, definitely bring them. It’s fun to pull them out once in a while just to see how deafening the show is but you should definitely have them in for 99% of the time.
April 6, 2006 at 10:01 am #115924pulling them out at the best parts of each song for like a minute worked pretty well for me last night. after having them in for the first couple of songs I pulled them out for the wagon and it’s like being on top of a mountain and the wind trying to push you off.
April 6, 2006 at 2:07 pm #115925It sounds better with earplugs.
April 6, 2006 at 2:49 pm #115926alright, thanks guys.
April 8, 2006 at 4:56 am #115927I’m going to see dino in May and from the posts here I’ll definetly be takin ear plugs but even with ear plugs do you still get ringin in the ears and deafness after the gig? Only I have an exam the day after and when they say stop writing I think it would be best if I could hear them say it

after the concert last night, i wore earplugs and i still have a bit of ringing in my ears. nothing bad, though.
the concert was great, though. Dead Meadow & Priestess did a great opening too.
April 8, 2006 at 8:58 am #115929When I saw them in Ann Arbor I took my earplugs out and stood right in front of Barlow, now note the club they played was really small. I got the whole expierence unaltered, and it was great! Every mindnumbing note filtered straight to my brain. But I don’t recomend that at every D.jr show!
