Much bigger venue (1000+ people) than the day before. Great sound, but some awefully violent (and messy) slamdancing and stagediving (!!!) during "Crumble" which was an odd choice for a song to slamdance to (IMHO) and some unruly people spilling beer over everyone which sucked. Not nice. Band ruled, though & setlist had a couple of surprises:
Gargoyle
Almost Ready
Back To Your Heart
Budge
Little Fury Things
Out There
This Is All I Came To Do
Feel The Pain
Pick Me Up
Crumble
Tarpit
Sludgefeast

Freak Scene
Mountain ManOverall Dino played for a little over 70 minutes (which was a bit short).
Great to hear Gargoyle as the opener again. Some great soloing and Murph really created some interesting drum stuff, at one point it seemed he was changing from 4/4 to 6/8 and back to 4/4. Pick Me Up was epic (Lou plays in dropped-D tuning on this one) but I think Lou and Murph were slightly overplaying (Cream-style
) and not really building a solid layer for J to solo on (although I’d rather have it this way than, say, a rhythm section that just keeps playing the same stuff over and over).
Crumble dissolved into a small free-form section at the end which was pretty cool which they also did at the end of Mountain Man. Tarpit was amazing – J played a few long sustaining notes at the end (usually there is some shredding wah-noise). Oh, and Lou remembered that Dino’s first ever European show was at the (old) Effenaar back in 1987.Funny how they all play without wearing glasses these days

Support act Underground Railroad (from Paris, although they always claim to bhe from London) were quite good, sorta a rock ‘n’ roll version of Sonic Youth w/a singing drummer. Dutch band Flying Fortress played an interesting mix of 70’s-emo-rock (not emo-core !) which I didn’t find too interesting although they were really solid (and loud !)

August 24, 2007 at 3:30 am #131536They also played Feel The Pain… and I’m sure there’s a few more gaps in that setlist.
August 24, 2007 at 3:42 am #131537I saw both concerts in the Effenaar and Lowlands. Although the public on Lowlands was probalbly much more diverce, I liked the gig better then the one yesterday in the Effenaar. Also the public on Lowlands was much more enthousiastic then the of yesterday. I do feel sh*tty since I wanted to buy the "Green Mind, cartoonish" shirt in Eindhoven but….. I….forgot and can’t find online. Damn!
August 24, 2007 at 2:30 pm #131538These setlists are great. hope they keep it up.
August 24, 2007 at 2:46 pm #131539hey trensidoh, thanks for the setlist, I was looking for it! I’m very bad at songtitles and not so familiar with the old stuff, I’m more a fan of the later period when Lou had already left (sorry…)
I recorded it, and am now tracking it. It sounds pretty good, but it has too much bass. My cheap mics can’t handle the loudness very well. But guitar and vocals are great. If all goes well it will be up on Dime later tonight. And if I figure out how to do it, I’lll up it to freesofree later in the weekend
The crowd went pretty nuts halfway through, but fortunately I was standing on J’s side (about 5 meters from stage), the moshing was at Lou’s. I’m now listening to Feel The Pain, so they did play it
after This Is All I Came To Do.I bought that Green Mind shirt, and only later realized it looked like the cover, guess I was too dazed by the noise after the show. Should have bought earplugs…. I also bought the CD from Underground Railroad, listened to it in the car all day, it’s pretty good. I also recorded them, didn’t tape the other opener.
Great show though, but I had reallly hoped they would play Just Like Heaven

If anyone could be so kind and remember me how to upload to freesofree, I will do that later today, or tomorrow, or anytime soon.
Hope you like it, it’s not the best sounding, but it ain’t that bad either.

But please only trade/share it in lossless (flac) formatPerhaps the Lowlands recording could also be uploaded to freesofree. Do you have any other Lowlands recordings too? Sonic Youth?
edit: if you do want to register on Dime, just keep trying. Several times a day old accounts are deleted
