entire albums vs a few

I never ever use shuffle/random play, normally I put an album on and push play, or skip to the track(s) that I want to hear, and then, depending on my mood, I let it play or put another one on…..

I too hate the shuffle button, I guess I’m kind of a control freak <img> . Most of the time I listen to a CD all the way through the first 3-5 times I put it on. Then I just skip to the good stuff. I hardly ever listen to just 1 song on a disk, that’s what mix CDs are for <img>

No shuffle for me either, usually program or skip to the songs I want to hear.

I usualy play the whole album. I like it to listen to it the way the artist (record company <img> ) planned it. No shuffle for me. But some times I put 5 mix-cd’s (DB-homemade’s) in the player and shuffle them all <img> .

BTW. Why is track 6 or 7 most of the time the most enjoyable track <img> ???

I hardly use the program feature,it seems I always forget songs that I wanted to have in there!
I like listening to entire albums if they`re consistent enough,some albums can have some filler in there.
Hansione brought up a good point about the 6th or 7th track;I usually think it`s the 2nd or 3rd might be the best one or sometimes the 2nd last track on the album.

Yeah it’s always tracks 3-4 and 7-8 that are the best of the album.

I’m too lazy and/or stupid to use shuffle/whatnot on a cd, I just play it straight thru, skipping the annoying tracks.

i almost always listen to albums from beginning to end. i basically never use shuffle or program, and usually don’t skip songs even, unless they suck. however, there arent very many songs that i skip. the only thing may be if i dont have enough time to finish the whole album than i will either just stop at whatever point i was at or will start later in the album.

i buy into the idea of an album being a whole piece of art, so its good to listen to the whole thing. saying ‘this is a great album’ is more of a compliment than saying ‘this is a great song’.

Inspired by BR`s thread on how much time spent on music got me thinking about this;do you listen to a whole album in it`s entirity or just put on shuffle play and play a few songs and switch to another album or just program your fav songs?

Sometimes I listen to an entire album,yesterday I listen to a White Stripes and Versus album in it`s entirity.Sometimes I use shuffle play and listen to 5 songs and then switch to another album.

I am totally with brabbit about an album being a whole piece of art.

Generally, if I’m in the mood to hear a band, I want to hear the whole album. I find that my moods are more artist-oriented than song-oriented. I never shuffle, and I only listen to mixes when they are gifts from friends (not a bad thing at all; but just the same, I take the whole album as a statement on behalf of the friend).

Of course, sometimes I have the itch to listen to a specific song; in that case I often end up letting the album play through to the finish.

What a weird topic….can we start diagnosing each others’ attention spans now? <img>

From what I understand, back in the days of vinyl and tape the most important tracks were the first and last songs on each side. Maybe that’s why the track 6 & 7 theory seems pretty solid. I’d been wondering about that myself since the side 1/track 1 discussion in High Fidelity.

Rarely do I listen to a whole disc by an artist, there are usually a couple songs that will send me screaming…ex poledo and don’t <img> So why traumatize myself all over again <img> Just too many songs out there and not enuf time <img> <img> <img>

Willard Grant Conspiracy – Mojave

The song ‘Go, Jimmy, go’ is so out of character with the rest of the album, being some sad attempt at a kind of mediocre hardcore-punk, it makes me jump up and push ‘next’!

It’s track 6 by the way……. <img>
