thanks man, I have some single coils that had the wax potting crap and i ripped all that junk out cause the geetar tech at Morrell music (local) said that would make them skweeeelll!! So i went home and bashed one pickup with a hamer, got out all the wax, put it in a harmony stella and played it. (Stella because I didnt have any other guitars to do it to). It didnt feedback to bad, but it sounded much better…….but what in a strat? SKAWEEEEEEELLLL!!!!!!!!

You guys are close, it is to keep them from rattling around. Belive it or not, some people don’t like uncontrolled microphonic feedback, so they have their humbuckers potted to keep it from happening. you CAN still feedback by holding your guitar in front of a reel loud amp, but you won’t squel unneccesarily.
