You’re Living All Over Me would definately have to be my favorite Dinosaur Jr. album. The songs all have great guitar, bass, drums, and vocals. One of the best things about Dinosaur Jr. is that you can blast it as loud as possible on your stereo and it still sounds amazing. I think that You’re Living All Over Me is the one Dinosaur Jr. album in which that works the best.
June 12, 2005 at 7:03 am #109041My first Dino record was Where You Been?, and it still ranks as my fave. I caught them at Lollapalooza that same year, and then again at First Avenue in Minneapolis with a different drummer (the guy from Gobblehoof, I think). Mike Johnson is a talented bass player, and I liked his stage presence as well. The silver medal probably goes to their first album, then Bug, then Green Mind.

Bug
Green Mind
Where You Been
Hand It Over (though often I prefer it to Where You Been)
Without A Sound (fantastic drumming on that album)
Dinosaur (a very distant last)More Light and Free So Free are in the Green Mind/Where You Been/Hand It Over area for me. Sometimes I prefer them to all but YLAOM and Bug. I hope J eventually decides to record with Kyle and Dave.

hand it overmy list has changed!
1. You’re Living All Over Me
2. Green Mind
3. Bug
4. Where You Been
5. Hand it Over
6. Dinosaur
7. Without a SoundApril 1, 2006 at 12:16 pm #109051since there aren’t too many people here who think Without a Sound is a great album, i’ve decided to pop my posting cherry here.
Without a Sound is, in my opinion, one of the greatest albums ever, and definitely my favourite Dinosaur record. for some reason, i find myself wanting to listen to Even You quite a bit…there’s something really mournful in that song that speaks to me i guess.
I Don’t Think So is a great tune… 90’s fuzziness aside, it could have been on that Neil Young album ‘Zuma’.
Yeah Right has a Mike Johnson guitar solo, and that has to mean something, given J’s mid-90’s vibe of being minimally collaborative.
Outta Hand is one of the most beautiful songs Dino has ever done.
Grab It destroys your eardrums from the beginning, and has some nice Thalia Zedek vocals on it too.
Mind Glow is the only Dino track to have an acoustic guitar solo (i think), and a kickass one at that.
Get Out of This tells a story that i think most people can relate to somehow…and more Thalia vocals. that girl’s voice sounds like sandpaper breathed to life.
On the Brink rocks righteously…great drumming and evil guitar chugging in the bridge of that one.
Seems Like the Thing to Do might be the weak track, but it’s mournful, and i dig it sometimes.
Over Your Shoulder has made me teary-eyed on more than a few occasions…that second solo soars and blisters just like it should.I’ve read some interviews where J says he was really unhappy while making this record, but he’s proud of it all the same. and rightfully so. sad rocking rules!
but to chime in with the poll, here are my picks in order:
Without a Sound
Free So Free
You’re Living All Over Me
More Light
Bug
Whatever’s Cool With Me
Where You Been
Fossils+Quest (for the b-sides)
Dinosaur
Martin & Me (for the Smiths cover)
Hand It OverApril 1, 2006 at 12:56 pm #109052i love Seemed like the thing to do, others i can’t get into. but i’m sure i will, its happened to me with all Dino albums. Dinosaur is my current favorite, right now.
April 7, 2006 at 12:17 pm #109053Man I would have thought Green Mind would be a little higher on the list. For me the list would look like,
1. Green Mind
2. (Tie) Bug, YLAOM
3. Where You Been
4. Hand it Over
5. Without a Sound (even though I think Over Your Shoulder is one of the best songs J has ever written)
6. DinosaurApril 7, 2006 at 2:31 pm #109054Green Mind is my favorite right now. but it always changes.
