Yawp,
It’s time again for Pro Football to begin this year in the U.S. Anyone been keeping up? Gotta say I am a bit embarrased at not even knowing who the Bears play first, but I think Allison mentioned it is to be the defending Super Bowl champ New England Patriots.Got razzed by my boss today about how Emmitt Smith of the Dallas Cowboys is set to cruise past former Bear Walter "Sweetjesusness" Payton for the all time rushing, or gaining yards by running the ball, total. I told my boss if they counted yards plus playing time, Payton would rule. I am not sure but I think he only missed about seven games in what, fifteen seasons.
Jaron, how on earth did Harrington swing to Detroit?
Been meaning to mention this to you for awhile but that was a treat for you I bet, especially Batch gone, he should get some minutes. I know they have someone else starting but who knows for he long haul.Central Div will probably be weaker with Tampa gone and (sorry Dude) the Pack on the decline. Vikes seem in disarray and Detroit is a little bit away but could surprise some folks this year. See Bears winning div and nothing else from our div, (which I know is called something else now by the way).
The other two divs in the NFC especially the old east teams, will fight it out should be some good games over there this year. The old west should still look at San Fran, St. Lou, and maybe the Aints
if brooks signs in time, maybe he did by now. He was holding out a few days ago.Comments welcome on college too in this thread. I will get to them and the AFC in time, maybe.

September 6, 2002 at 11:49 pm #81712I’m more excited about this NFL season then I’ve been in a long time. The main reason for that is I’m a huge Dallas Cowboy fan, and they will at least be an exciting team to watch.
The Bears open up with the Vikings. I think Soldier Field is being renovated, and the Bears will be playing in Champagne. I definately recommend any football fan to take a trip to Soldier Field. It may be the best stadium in all of sports.
I hate the Packers, but I think they will win the division. The Bears will probably take second (it will be tough playing 16 games away from home). The Vikings third, and the Lions a distant, distant 4th place.
My brother and I are splitting season tickets to the new Ford Field. I’m excited to see what it’s like.
The NFC South is a joke! Weak!
1. Tampa 2. New Orleans 3. Atlanta 4. Carolina
The NFC West should be a good division.
1. Rams 2. 49ers 3. Cardinals 4. Seahawks (I can’t stand Holmgren!)
NFC East will finally be a tough division again.
1. Eagles 2. Cowboys (hopefully) 3. NYG 4. Washington (I hate Spurrier too!)
I would break down the AFC too, but all football fans no the AFC is a non factor, amd the SuperBowl is usually decided in the NFC Championship Game.September 6, 2002 at 11:49 pm #81930I’m more excited about this NFL season then I’ve been in a long time. Great game last nite, well we watched a bit of it then chaos took over… <img> Picked the Giants to win but they lost, will watch the end of the game at work tonite. Love their rookie Shockey…wicked hits!!! Terell Owens kinda reminds me of a certain viking receiver…doesn’t want too take a hit <img>
BEARS play the vikings in Champagin sunday at noon, looking forward to this in a huge way. I’m pleased with the realignment, we still play tampa though..december in Champaign, evening game <img> they don’t stand a chance <img> We have a much tougher schedule this year, still predicting twelve wins though. Kept a lot of our best players, Kruetz, Holdman, Robinson, Miller, Marcus Robinson is looking good and so is Dez White:D Couple weak spots, left guard on the O line and David Terrell needs to shut up and just catch the ball!!! Azumah and Green may get picked on but think they’ll come thru for us. Not completely sold on Chandler as back up but Hey!
Go BEARS!!!
Allison
ps Patriots play the Steelers on MNF on the 9th <img>

September 7, 2002 at 12:07 am #81715It may sound silly, but I actually had tears in my eyes when Walter held his press conference and when he died. I was born in 75, so I watched most of his career closely. It’s sad to see your heroes/role models/great people pass.
For years Walter was invincible, only to die in his early 40’s. Your right Allison, it’s a shame. Walter was a great person as well as a football player.

TomSeptember 7, 2002 at 1:12 am #81716well thanks for the clearing up folks. Sux I cannot follow as close as I would like, but gotta dews are winning over wanna dues, unlike times past.
Hey Tom I hear the Dallas linebacking corps and defense overall is to be wicked. Looking for Dat Ngyuen to have a big year, probably close to Urlacher’s last year. That little dude is a monster hitter and very quick. I think they might be similar to the Bears with quarterback questions and a lot of wide receivers, sucks about Rocket already being down, he is a lot better than he has shown in the pros and with Galloway and a good QB, Dallas could be quite a force again easily.

September 7, 2002 at 12:37 pm #81717Uh Tom, you know the Pats won the Super Bowl last year, right? Don’t think the the NFC Championship determined that one. <img> Charlie Batch got forced out for Mike McMahon (both guys are from Pittsburgh btw, McMahon handed off to my cousin in HS). That’s why they got Harrington.
Anyway I like in the AFC:
East: New England
South: Tennessee
West: Oakland
North: Stillers (of course)NFC:
East: Philly
North: Green Bay (sorry Allison)
South: New Orleans
West: San FranSuper Bowl: Stillers 147, Eagles 3 Eagles score late field goal to ruin shutout, thus infurating Lee Flowers. And yes Bill Cower would win a wrestling match with gawd.
On the Skins: their D is strong, but they have no QB. I bet they go 8-8 or 6-10 at the worst.

September 7, 2002 at 1:25 pm #81718Long Distance,
I was just joking around. The NFC has been slightly more successful in the SuperBowl in my lifetime than the AFC. Throughout the 80’s and 90’s the NFC won a majority of the SuperBowls.
Personally, I think the Pats got really lucky. The Raider turnover was a joke. The Steelers special teams lost the game for them, and the Rams would have won if Martz actually had Faulk carry the ball. That said, every team needs luck to win the SuperBowl. I just think the Rams were the better team, the Pats were better that day.
AFC South
1. Titans 2. Colts 3. Jags 4. Texans
The East is the toghest AFC division by far.
1. Dolphins 2. Jets 3. Pats 4. Bills
West
1.Denver 2. K.C. 3. Oakland 4.Chargers
The AFC North and NFC South are probably the weakest conferences in the whole NFL
1. Pitt 2. Bengals 3. Ravens 4. Browns
