November 25, 2002 at 2:30 pm #81867Yeah, that wasn’t a backward pass for Washington State.
Personally, I’m hoping for chaos. Miami loses to Va Tech (not likely), Oklahoma loses to Colorado (near sure bet), and Georgia loses to whoever they play in the SEC title game (sure bet times ten), leaving Ohio State [the defacto best team in the country, by the way] and Iowa in the Fiesta Bowl.
Think about it.

Chaos for the BCS would absolutely rule!! Can not agree with you more. That whole system is screwed.
You forgot to add that Iowa would beat The Ohio State University, thereby causing even more chaos, since Iowa, OSU, and Miami would all have one loss..
Carl.

November 25, 2002 at 3:00 pm #81869And what about 2 loss Notre Dame (after they lose to USC)?? Shouldn’t a two-loss Notre Dame team be ranked ahead of a one loss Iowa team? If the Coaches poll has anything to say about it they will.
BCS sucks. 4 team playoff.

November 25, 2002 at 3:38 pm #818702 loss Notre Dame would be left out of the BCS, since SC would take their at-large spot. (I do not see Wazzu losing to UCLA) and Iowa would be ranked ahead of Notre Dame since Iowa’s only loss was to Iowa State when Iowa State (and Seneca Wallace) were playing above their heads. AND Iowas has been laying to wood to their oppoents recently. Notre Dame’s two losses would have come against BC and USC.
Remember, in college football it is more of WHEN you lose rather than WHO you lose to.
Right now, .. My BCS Bowl projections are:
Fiesta : Ohio State v. Miami
Rose: Washington State v. Iowa
Orange: Oklahoma v. Florida State
Sugar: Georgia v. USCof course, I would assume that 3 of these teams will not be in a BCS bowl come January. My guesses are OU, USC, and Georgia..
I could be wrong.
Carl.
p.s. I think a 16 team playoff would be better. In a four, who do you leave out? You have OSU, Miami, Oklahoma, and Iowa as the probable top 4, but who is to say that the USC/Notre Dame winner is not better?

November 25, 2002 at 6:11 pm #8187116 teams is too many. We should have a 4 team playoff with a third place game and that should take the place of your 4 BCS bowls. The rest of bowls are left intact.
This year, OSU would be in and the top 3 ranked 1 loss teams. I don’t care if USC is playing like barn burners right now, 2 losses is out. And by ranked, it should be some composite of the AP and UPI(coaches) rankings. The BCS formula should only come into play if there’s a situation where the AP and coaches disagree on 4 and 5 and the BCS formula can be the tie breaker.

November 26, 2002 at 7:54 am #81873Four or maybe 8 team playoff, take away a regular season game and those kick-off classic things. Really, I think Iowa is playing the best right now, and although I am a Penn State fan, I think Brad Banks deserves the Heisman. Still will root for OSU in the Fiesta assuming the sky doesn’t fall and they play Miami.
