26 – 18 total..
and as for the Chargers… UGH!!! Up 31 – 17 with 6 minutes left and lose and overtime..to the Raiders.. DAMN IT.. I know i picked the raiders, but that was with the head..
October 1, 2003 at 12:37 pm #94069I’m 26-18 as well
Saw the press conference with Donovan McNabb this morning, he made some great comments r/t the statements that idiot rush made on espn Sunday.
Only thing espn said was hey! our ratings went up 10% since rush was added to the show…typical

Shows how little rush knows about football, to say Donovan McNabb hasn’t been that good anyways, then to bring the race card into it…YIKES! I hate the eagles but can’t in anyway say McNabb isn’t a great player, couple pro bowls, couple conference championship games. Idiot

ps-wish I had one of those lovely beverages right now
October 1, 2003 at 1:29 pm #94070Saw a report on this football as you call it, very little kicking though, on monday. Apparently games had been played, games won, games lost and whatnot. Btw, Allison, are those Bears you talk about all the time by any chance from Chicago? If so, you have my sympathy. No wins this season from what I gathered. Didn’t understand much of it though, and we now enter the question part of my post:
How is this game played?`
-seemed to me they just run with the ball, then get smashed to the ground. Sometimes they start over where the guy was smashed to the ground. Other times they move backwards. And there was very little playing.
Run…bang to the ground.
-move back or start where you are.
Some running again…. bang to the ground.Sometimes there was kicking as well. But no goalie.
And I need someone to explain to me why this is so fascinating. I can see it from a violence point of view -but then Rugby is the natural choice, after all they are men enough to play without all that protective gear

Any help greatly appreciated.
Also, I think it’s time that europeans claim the right to name soccer football world wide. American football should be running ball. Or, we’re afraid of rugbyball.
October 1, 2003 at 1:37 pm #94071American Football is 4 Wussies
Rugby is the Real Thing, I Tell YaThink All Americans R Wussies
When u watch the Champcars for Example, Great Entertainment
But as soon as it starts 2 rain, the race is stopped
Here in Europe we keep on racing, Long Life The Rallysport or Formula 1
Dont U Americans have ever heard of RaintyresOctober 1, 2003 at 1:59 pm #94072Those BEARS are from Chicago, still feeling the pain of that first game in our new stadium…

They also throw the ball every now & then

Football players used to play with minimal pads & leather helmets…can’t imagine the pain of being hit head on by Mike Ditka with no pads
The game has gotten faster, quite the violent battle for a couple hours each week. The guys are monsters, some guys are 6′ 8" & over 300lbs…these guys are also quite fast & make monster hits on the opposing teams…yes I love the violence of it all
But I also love watching a running back break one out, cutting away from the defenders & scoring, love watching wide receivers catch the impossible passes along the sidelines, love seeing the wicked hits play after play…I don’t know how some of those receivers stand up after those shots
Can’t really say why I don’t like Soccer, or Canadian Football, once I saw my 1st BEAR game waaaayyyy back in time I was hooked…painful as it is I’m a BEAR fan for life
Heres a basic intro to nfl…NFL 101
we’re afraid of Rugbyball…
October 1, 2003 at 3:31 pm #94073Antichrist,
To say that American football is "4 Wussies", is a completely ignorant statement.
Rugby is violent, and its players are extremely tough, but American football players are in my opinion the greatest athletes in the world. No other athletes combine speed and size the way american football players do. What other sport combines players like Deoin Sanders or Michael Vick, that run 4.1 40 yard dashes. with players like Larry Allen that weigh 340 lbs and bench press over 720 lbs?Joey Porter a Pittsburgh Steeler linebacker, played a game three weeks after being shot in the ass by a shotgun! He wanted to play two weeks after the shooting, but the coach wouldn’t let him play.
In the same week, Kelly Holcombe, the Cleveland QB, led his team to victory on a fractured leg and a sprained ankle.
Dauntae Culpper, the Minesota QB, broke three bones in his back, and still practiced all week.
Ronnie Lott and Bill Bates two NFL players from the 80’s both had parts of their fingers amputated so they could play in football games. They went with amputation so they wouldn’t have to have pins inserted, thus allowing them to play.
I could go on and on with many examples of the toughness, but I think I’ve already proved my point.
TomRobert,
American football players are incredible athletes.
I think one thing football fromother sports is all the strategy that is involved. No other sport I know of requires the same amount of mental preparation (I’ve played football, soccer, basketball, track, hockey, and baseball).
QB’s have 30 seconds to get their team into a huddle, get the play from the coach, relay the play to the team, line the team up properly, read the defense, make necessary adjustments(audibles), and get the snap off. They do this while crowds of anyhwere between 60.000- 120,000 fans are going crazy.
Some playbooks that these players have to memorize can be over 1,000 pages long!Tom

I’m sorry about your Bears. Kordell played OK. I felt bad for him. He was taking some big hits. I think the Bear offense will become better as Kordell continues to run the football more.
The Bear D misses the people that have left. The Bears should be able to beat the Lions! The Bear team needs some playmakers on both sides of the ball.
The Cowboys are surprising me, but they have only beat 1 good team. Dallas has a solid defense, and Parcells has the offense playing solid. I thought they could be 9-7 at best, but more realistically, I expected about 7 wins.
Look at the bright side, the Bears will get a good draft pick!
Good luck!

Thanks, we have the Raiders in Chicago on Sunday
:aliensmile:Still the same coaches though, this week they benched the wrong corner azumah…yeah he got burned but nowhere near as much as rw mcquarters did.
Hopefully we get some coaches & a gm who know what to do with a draft pick

Go Dallas Go
October 1, 2003 at 6:15 pm #94076ok folks, back from vacation all rested up…..i (thankfully) didn’t get to see the stillers game last weekend, probably for the best, but from what i hear, maddox made some poor decisions (again)…so anywho, i went 9-5 for the week, which brings my total to 25-19 (56.8%). looks like we’re all pretty close for the season so far, when i get a chance i’ll do the math and post the standings for all of us. i figure we can just go by winning percentage since not everyone has picked the same # of games. on second thought…..do yer own math you lazy bastards
……
October 1, 2003 at 6:32 pm #94077My stats: (missed the first week, so:)
last week: 11-3
this week: 8-6 (going down fast….
)
Total: 19-9My pocket-calculator says: 67.9%
October 1, 2003 at 6:35 pm #94078is 0 out of 0 100%?

if so I’m in a whopping lead!A famous quote from a quite (in)famous maths/computer sciences lecturer at the Eindhoven Polytechnic University: "delen door nul is gelul!"

…which translates loosely (obscenities aside
) into:Quote:"low-level events, such as arithmetic overflows and divide by zero, are assumed to be handled by a dedicated lower-level mechanism rather than by exceptions. This enables C++ to match the behaviour of other languages when it comes to arithmetic. It also avoids the problems that occur on heavily pipelined architectures where events such as divide by zero are asynchronous."October 1, 2003 at 6:59 pm #94081"dB stands for den Buck" wrote:[ "delen door nul is gelul!"
Yeah, same as "Å dele på null er bare tull."
I don’t belive that though, not for a second. Math is a obstacle in life on your way to happiness!
