I thought this was sort of neat, even though I can’t really understand most of what they’re saying. Maybe if any of you can speak French better than I can, you’ll enjoy this more. There are some short clips of shows both old and new, and some nifty new interviews in which their voices are sadly overdubbed by goofy-sounding translators.

It was on the French/German – TV-channel ARTE 2 weeks ago, I have it on VHS, but I am without a DVD recorder so unfortunately I can’t upload it. The interview & live footage was filmed at the Zenith in Paris last December when Dinosaur opened for Sonic Youth. The interview is really funny, it’s about Murph’s "breakdown – incident" where he hurled a table & suitcase around (mentioned in the book "Our Band Could Be Your Life"), I love how the whole band has to laugh about it now, J’s really amused, the whole band comes across like 3 brothers that have grown up together :)

I loved how they had different guys dubbed for each person. Lou’s guy has such a nasal-y whiny voice. I think that’s the most animated I’ve ever seen J.

Agreed, it was pretty cool seeing J laugh and tell stories. :)

Thanks for the link. :) I haven’t see J that giggly since he summed up free so free with the word Cake.

Well, I can understand it but it’s 8 min. long, so… little by little… J. said he had no money, no allowance and no job to buy records when he was younger, yet he had so many… How did he get them ? He said he stole money from his MOTHER!!!! J !! :o :(

I stole money out of my mother’s pocketbook to buy Husker Du’s Warehouse: Songs and Stories on the day it came out. There had been a blizzard that day so school was cancelled, and it had been expected that because I was home, the driveway and sidewalks would be shoveled by the time my folks came home from work. But instead, they arrived home to find me sitting in the living room with Warehouse blasting for about the third time in a row, all the way through, with all the snow still unshoveled. Priorities, you know?

Part 1 (stops at 1 min. 15 sec) loosely translated

Women’s voiceover: "While Nirvana were still busy tuning their guitars in their garage, Dinosaur Jr, in ’88, the founders of grunge… even though the Freakscene video had everything to make Dino soar, three years later, it was Cobain and his group that won all the awards."

J : "When I first heard Kurt Cobain, I thought I had already heard his voice–it was radio-friendly–calibrated for the radio, like Cheap Trick or Bad Company. My voice is not calibrated for radio but their voices are pefect."

Women’s voiceover: "Ruptured rhythm, crystaline melodies, mining a big sound, with vestimental nihilism. This is the 22 year trademark of Dinosaur Jr, in concert tonight at the Zenith in Paris.

Part 2 (stops at 2 min. 39 sec)

                      Sludgefeast

Women’s voiceover: Dino’s roots are Amherst Mass. The trio mostly had the same wish–that of strangling all the hippy students that encircled them. In ’83, Barlow and Massiss formed Dinosaur Jr, a trio with Murph, after having gotten their ya ya’s out in Deep Wound.

Murph: "At the time, J was buying a whole bunch of punk rock records, he was super rich!"

J: "I was wondering the other day where i would find all that money to buy records. I didn’t have a job or an allowance… no bank account… i know I took some money from my mom…"

I stole something… and then I threw it in the garbage. But it was totally worth it… sweet revenge :-X :(
