Noticed that Jay has been using a Real McCoy RMC2 Wah lately. Therefore, I had to go out a get one. Bought mine off EBAY.
I highly recommend one to get even closer to Jay’s sound. I had an old Crybaby wah and the Real McCoy sweeps more and gives you that crazy whooo wind like sound you here with Jay’s stuff.
Even when your not rocking the pedal it gives a great slush to your over all sound. Check it out.
Off course Jay’s looks a little different with knobs on both sides. Who knows what that is about?
I have a picture of Jay’s if anyone wants to host it.
June 13, 2007 at 5:21 am #129878j’s wah pedal is vintage and custom made, dont worry about his knob as long as you got rocking your pedals.
wheres the pic?i love to take a look, lets share!!
June 14, 2007 at 2:56 am #129879vintage? it’s a 90s teese. i’m use he used an old crybaby or vox on the older albums however. i’ve always hated crybabies- so weak sounding.
geoff teese makes a bunch of models, some with extra controls, and he frequently makes custom stuff. the knobs are probably for q (resonance) and eq, maybe a built in boost.
June 14, 2007 at 3:01 am #129880sorry maybe my mistake..anyway,dont you think reissue and original wah pedal sounds like the same?i never wonder about j’s wah sound but i always wonder what fuzz pedal he used.sucks to getting his sounds dude!

It’s been my experience that the way does shape your overall sound even if your not using the pedal.
June 15, 2007 at 11:38 pm #129882oh its mean wah pedal is turned on even j didnt use it thats why his sound like that?
back to topic, thats not gear ,but its wah pedal to be like jay,can you recommend what PEDALS to be like him,all i know he only uses vintage pedals, but i think reissue muff sounds cool enough to get a sound like jay,but not cool enough to be like jayJune 16, 2007 at 8:30 am #129883Post the picure of J’s wah. I have some pics but they’re all angle shots and shit which is annoying.
J has a custom model, but I’m pretty sure the normal Real McCoy’s will do allright.
What wah did J use in in the late 80’s? I’m not sure he had the McCoy back then…
June 16, 2007 at 3:32 pm #129884If someone will host the image, I can email it to them. Otherwise, I can email the image to you. Send me a message.
As far as I know you are correct. Jay did not use a Real McCoy Wah in the early years.
He does have a custom Real McCoy Wah, but I was told the RMC2 is close.
BTW – how is a Wah pedal not a part of "gear"…whatever.
I have a vintage Big Muff played through a Marshall and it sounds great. Not sure how a modern Big Muff sounds compared to a Vintage…sorry.

I have modded a USA reissue back to the original specs, but the amount of components you have to change is just stupid… and the ones I’ve built from scratch STILL sound more like an original Muff than the modified reissue.
June 16, 2007 at 4:11 pm #129886Hmm, there are a few coppies of the original muff around but i guess its not the same. I dislike the muddyness of the reissue muff. they’re not bright enough for j’s tone. Or is it just my amp?
I need a new amp which i’m trying to get but i dont know which one. Any smaller/affordable marshall tube amps i should look out for??
Here’s 2 shots of his pedalboard but I dont think you can see the wah good enough

June 18, 2007 at 3:58 am #129889yeah it RMC wah,i got another of this pic which is more closer and i can see the RMC logo but it have 3 or 4 knob and i dont think the RMC2 or RMC3,i think j RMC wah is custom made just for him(i think)yeah i dont like the muddyness of usa reissue bigmuff too, thats why i use sovtek muff and i think (recommended by many big muff user) it sound just like original "face model"big muff and i very like it but its not heavy enough if compare to zvex fuzz factory or mammooth pedal, but im not sure,it just recommended by pedals user, you can try ask them for sure
June 18, 2007 at 9:56 am #129890So a Sovtek Muff is just brighter and more J-esque? Hmm, i heard its not as fuzzy, which is pretty cool for getting J’s tone, cause his tone is more bright and trebly. I might get that next.
J’s wah looks like it has 3 knobs on each sides.
June 19, 2007 at 12:15 am #129891yes,absolutely right, sovtek muff is cool to get j sound, here i give a song list that i examined and suspect that j used sovtek muff
1-little fury things (with blue box)
2-the lung (heavy part/solo)
3-out there
4-freak scene (live version) not sure if it would be sovtek on album versionand here which j used usa big muff
1-let it ride (album version)
for other song,i dont have any idea what pedal j used, maybe j used zvex pedal,i dont know yet because i dont examine that pedal yet,but i have been told that sovtek muff is close to face model usa bigmuff so im not pretty sure which muff has j used on my list song above.or it just my fault.
