I have heard that there are green mind demos floating around. If so, does anyone have them, and could maybe upload them for me? I’m really eager to hear them, GM is a great album.
April 29, 2007 at 4:34 am #128374I can’t be bothered to browse FSF, but maybe its there.
April 29, 2007 at 12:49 pm #128375I checked FSF, someone offered to upload it back in December, but that did not happen.
April 30, 2007 at 4:44 pm #128376oh man. i’d love to hear these!

May 11, 2007 at 1:14 am #128378I completely forgot about that thread. Some one offered to post them then nothing turned up. Hope that they finally do go up on FSF.
May 11, 2007 at 2:08 am #128379I am pretty sure that there is NO WAY that these are going up on fsf – no matter how different the mixes are from the final album version these are still mixes of an OFFICIAL release and stuff like this is always shakey and I don’t think Anthony would like to deal with various lawyers & lawsuits etc…
But, yeah, damn, whatever…May 11, 2007 at 5:37 pm #128380Well, if someone can put them up there, we would all love to hear them. Demos are conspicuously absent when it comes to Dinosaur Jr.
May 11, 2007 at 9:58 pm #128381We have decided against hosting those actually. They are VERY close to the final mix that was released. Seriously, there were just trivial differences.
The reason there are so few Dinosaur Demos available is because J usually gets them to the point of needing only a mastering and touch ups before they get out of his hands (which, don’t forget is his studio as well).
I have pre-mastered copies of both of the Fog albums on CDRs that J gave me and while there are some differences between those and what is on the final product, they are not like rough demos by any means. In a few cases, I would argue that the only changes were slight level adjustments in the mix only. The ones with the biggest changes are just the additions of layers. The backing vocals on ‘more light’, the song, was not on the mix I have but were in the final version. It is not like the striped down, rough working versions you would expect from a demo – guitar only, or whatever.
I would love to see something like that surface but with J doing most of the recording and mixing in his house, the chances of tracks like that getting out are pretty slim unless he decided to consent to it (which I have asked about before)
anyway, just my two cents.
believe me, if they were different enough to justify it we would put them up but the demos we have are just too near the final product.
May 12, 2007 at 11:14 pm #128382thanks for an explanation regarding the demos. This thread got me to wonder if there were rough demos for the three original albums or if they’re as you were explaining they’re close to the final mixes. I would love to hear some early demos as Im sure everyone else.
May 20, 2007 at 7:31 pm #128383Yeah, thanks alot for that explanation.
Hertz, i’m guessing that the Green Mind demos have VERY small differences, like maybe some minor background vocals missing. Not huge song differences, like the Sub Pop version of The Wagon compared to the Green Mind version. -
