I’ve been playing probably for 3 to 4 years.

Yeah, I gave that first guitar of mine to him but it isn’t "metal" enough. He’s been eyeballing a BC Rich at the local Guitar Center. I think it might be a Warlock. I know those things suck but if he’s into it………
I taught him how to play the begining of One by Metalica and Sabbath’s Iron Man. While he likes Dinosaur Jr and a lot of the other bands I’m into, he really loves Metal for some reason. I can’t blame him I loved that shit too when I was his age.
Maybe this Christmas he’ll get lucky.
June 20, 2006 at 2:42 am #118284yeah man…teen years I was into Grunge still really heavily, but I wanted to secretly have all these metal guitars. I had a $1,200 Kramer Pacer that was Flip Flop blue (Kramers equiv. to an Ibanez Jem) and I had a B.C. Rich Warlock in Turqoise, and a Dean Playmate with a snake graphic on it. The vipers head and tongue popped out from the rest of the body….pretty kool effect really.
Now I’m still secretly into those guitars but honestly I don’t have any anymore. I have all my vintage guitars or vintage RI etc. Strats are quickly becoming my faves. with singles….my black one has 2-1-2 config though.
Ehh……I’m 23 now and I’ve been playing for 13 1/2 years now. I still suck. I’m trying to branch out some and learn Jazz, Blues, Classical, Bluegrass and Rockabilly.
Influences:
the reason I wanted to play a guitar is C.C. Deville (Poison) and the video for Talk Dirty to Me. I saw that video when I was four and I liked all those B.C. Rich’s (which is why I still like them prolly). The neon colors made them look better than candy for some reason….I had to have one. There are still a few from that era that still blow me away.
Other than CC and J. there is of course as mentioned….Kurt, Mike and Stone (Pearl Jam) John Frusciante, Chet Atkins, Kerry King, my cousin Nathan (played some stuff on my Randy Jane cd). Oh and girls…..like Girl, shes a good example of that.
R.J.
June 20, 2006 at 8:51 am #118285Grunge is fine and all, but I’ve recently realized that I really hate Pearl Jam.

Don’t anybody start feeling old here, I sometimes feel that way when I’m like….well, Kurt said this…or did this and my friend is like "Who?" KURT! "Whos that? Never heard of Nirvana." Friggin…….gah! Ive given these kids around here lists and lists of good music to start listening to. Most people like Bad Religion at least.
Adding to my list: Bad Religion (all their thirty guitarists..ok 3)
Fugazi (in general), NOFX, FLIPPER!!, I’m sure there are more…like Billy Corgan and James Iha.Randy Jane.
June 20, 2006 at 2:13 pm #118290I was a little too young for grunge (I was born in 88), so I look at it more objectively then people who grew up with it…which might explain my dislike for bands like Pearl Jam.
