Has Jay’s Tone Ruined Me?

I don’t know that a JCM 2000 was engineered to have distortion pedal rammed into the input. Try a JCM 800, play with the controls of the Muff, plug into the LOW sensitivity jack for Pumpkins and high input for a more J tone. Then you’ll be in the ball park. PS: Love RI Jazzmasters but think their PU’s are terrible.

maybe start to make your own tone? a marshall JCM 2000 is a good amp and i think you shouldnt focus on j’s tone, focus more on yr own

I’ve made some progress. One of my tubes went bad and I had it fixed. The repair guy also – broke my amp in – and it sounds much better.

Also, I had my guitar "set-up" after about 13 years and that helped too.

I know I should work on my tone – but I just like Jay’s. I just want something that sounds like GOD when you play a chord.

Anyone know if Jay uses or used a Univox Super Fuzz?

Well – everything is sounding much better with the new tubes, set up, and I got my Vintage Electric Mistress dialed in. It gives a great sound that reminds me of some of Jay’s stuff.
