Jim Reid has a new disc coming out in June. The song up on his myspace site is pleasing, sounds a lot like something off Darklands ;)

Jim Reid and The Jesus and Mary Chain, iconic Scottish indie rock group, plays Whelans on Tuesday, the 20th of June.

Jim Reid and The Jesus and Mary Chain come to the capitol playing tunes from the JAMC back catalogue alongside Jim Reid’s solo songs with an intimate performance at Whelans.

Hailing from the hard suburbs of East Kilbride in Glasgow, Jim Reid and his brother, William began playing music inspired by punk rock and formed their own band, The Jesus and Mary Chain in 1984 featuring Bobbie Gillespie from Primal Scream on drums.

Having signed to Alan McGee’s Creation label, The Jesus and Mary Chain released their seminal single "Upside Down", introducing a sound that merged the sprawling white noise of The Velvet Underground with the pop melodies of Phil Spector and The Ramones.

The single was to turn the British music scene upside down, laying the ground for groups like My Bloody Valentine and Dinosaur Jr. with blissed out anthems like "Never Understand", "Some Candy Talking" and "You Trip Me Up".

In 1985, The Jesus and Mary Chain signed to WEA Records and released one of the classic debut albums with Pyschocandy while forging a notorious reputation in rock with a raft of their concerts ending up in riots.

The Jesus and Mary Chain followed up their debut with the guitar pop of Darklands, the feedback frenzy of Automatic, the indie rock of Honey’s Dead and the gentle acoustic grandeur of Stoned & Dethroned featuring the wonderful single, "Sometimes Always", a duet with Mazzy Star’s Hope Sandoval.

The band returned to their white noise roots for the single "I Hate Rock ‘n’ Roll" and followed with the single collection, The Jesus and Mary Chain Hate Rock ‘n’ Roll. The Jesus and Mary Chain’s history was littered with legendary bust ups between the Reid brothers but the recording of the band’s 1998 album, Munki was especially fraught.

After the release of Munki, William Reid left JAMC and the group officially broke up in 1999. Jim Reid kept on writing classic tunes and in 2000 formed the band Freeheat touring extensively and releasing an EP, Retox before their parted company in 2003.

Embarking on a solo career, Jim Reid began perfoming low-key gigs with ex-Lush lead guitarist, Phil King, ex-Ride drummer Loz Colbert and Mark Crozier on bass. Last year, Jim Reid released his debut solo single, "Song For A Secret" on Transistor Records and the man is currently putting the finishing touches on his debut album.

A night of classic rock tunes, Jim Reid and The Jesus and Mary Chain play Whelans on Tuesday, the 20th of June.

Hellacopters have a best of coming out in August, only a couple songs I would eliminate (17 & 21).

I think they peaked at High Visibility, still some great songs, this best of has a pretty good sampling of all the releases…

              AIR RAID SERENADES (6/7/2006)

It comes a time when a band decides to release a ?Greatest Hits?. Why? To mark the end of an era? To keep the record company happy? Or just for hell of it? In our case a little bit of it all. Since we never had a hit let?s just call it a ?Best of? of sorts. Anyway, after twelve years together as a band, it?s time to do it.

The 22-song collection, all of which most of you have heard before, is called ?Air Raid Serenades?. These days most Greatest Hits or Best of?s have one or two new songs on them so that the die hard fans have to buy them only because of that. This one is mainly released for the people that have none or only a few of our records, i.e. it?s meant to be sort of an introduction to The Hellacopters. So, no new songs since we feel it?d be too much of a rip-off.

Choosing the songs wasn?t easy and we?re sure there?s a whole lot of you out there who could?ve done better but this is what we came up with. Feel free to complain but you might wanna save your strength ?cause the tracklist stays. The amazing artwork is done by Dirty Donny (http://www.dirtydonny.com) and the tracklist is:

              1. (Gotta Get Some Action) Now!
              2. Ferrytale
              3. Born Broke
              4. Soulseller
              5. You Are Nothing
              6. Like No Other Man
              7. Long Gone Losers
              8. Move Right Out Of Here
              9. The Devil Stole The Beat From The Lord
              10. Venus In Force
              11. Down Right Blue
              12. Crimson Ballroom
              13. Hopeless Case Of A Kid In Denial
              14. Toys And Flavors
              15. No Song Unheard
              16. By The Grace Of God
              17. Carry Me Home
              18. It?s Good But It Just Ain?t Right
              19. Turn The Wrong Key
              20. Everything?s On T.V.
              21. I?m In The Band
              22. Bring It On Home

A release date is yet to be set but somewhere around mid August is our guess. We?ll let you know as soon as we know. A video for the song Bring it On Home has been directed by Amir Chamdin (who also did the videos
for Hopeless Case Of A Kid In Denial, No Song Unheard, By The Grace Of God & Everything?s On T.V.)

Sonics Rendezvous Band boxed set being released in Sept ’06. This label did a great job on The Stooges Heavy Liquid Boxed Set, although they had problems with the packaging so the set was 3 months late…
