I just ordered Television – Live At The Old Waldorf, San Francisco, 6/29/78, released on the Rhino Handmade label, limited edition, looking forward to it…..
(…and to the other Television re-releases on Rhino as well….)October 1, 2003 at 2:40 pm #85408New Flaming Lips EP coming soon…
‘Ego Tripping At The Gates Of Hell’ EP will be released in the US on 18 November. This will feature two mixes of the song ‘Ego Tripping’ and four brand new tracks, including ‘A Chance At Christmas’, which is the band’s newly written festive track about spreading more peace and love when, er, it’s not Christmas.
At the other end of the disc, lead track ‘Assassination Of The Sun’ is a standout Lips robo-lament. A revamped version of the song first recorded for BBC Radio in the UK, this track sees Wayne spinning a raw yarn of death and corrupted emotion. Underpinned by a beautiful mournful piano melody, the song bursts sporadically into a heartbreaking and agonised chorus of, "They have begun/They have begun/To assasinate the sun." You’ll be wanting to hear this one…
Full track listing of the US EP:
1. Assassination of the Sun
2. I’m a Fly in a Sunbeam (Following the Funeral Procession of a Stranger)
3. Sunship Balloons
4. Do You Realize?? (Jimmy Tamborello Mix)
5. Ego Tripping (Ego in Acceleration Mix)
6. Ego Tripping (Self-Administration with Blow-Up Mix)
7. A Chance at Christmas (Say It Isn’t So)The UK release will have a slight difference with The Utah Saints’ ‘Birth Of A Mega-Hero’ mix coming in as an alternate track 5.
